I know it's far too late for the OP, but on my boat in the UK I have a 3.5kva generator (5kva also available) powered by the boat engine. It consists of a powerful alternator and a box which would fit in the engine compartment. Wrong voltage for you Yanks, but no doubt a similar thing is available for you guys. It weighs next to nothing.

No is not to late. I will love to find something like this in US.
|
It would probably be far easier to fit to your new deisel engine than an air cooled VW one too and it's designed for deisel engine low rev torque too.
Love your bus, if the UK was more of a wilderness than it is, I like to think mine would end up similarly equipped and hopefully looking as cool as yours does. Top marks for taking the well intended criticism like a man and getting that huge weight off the front. |

When I first saw this bus - inhabor - had posted it with questions to his then present set up. Lots of us here in the forums criticised the shit out of him and his bus. He took it with strides and actually did changes to the bus that he said he would.
This is one of the more loved buses Ive seen. Relatively speaking Im sure its not pampered like lots of buses out there. Its well used as it was intended. Many a happy used mile under its belt

Notch, I couldn’t agree more. I dig this bus. ( I like stock, however....) inhabor is a bad ass. I totally dig his work and his spirit of busin’ if I’m out his way I’m totally buying him a beverage of his choice _________________ Keep on Busin'

I'm pretty jealous of that ride. |
Oh, yeah, well, NOW. Sure.

Wait a minute........., you didn't stop by the party store and pick up 200 helium ballons for your kid's birthday on the way to the scale did you?, that's less than the factory empty weight.
