Restoring my original 64 gearbox
This one has lots of miles on it compared to my straight axle box
i can see more wear on the gears and differential and lots of wear especially on the 3rd gear.. all the other ones and syncros seem fine to reinstall
so i tried to macgyver my 3rd gear ... results ??
will i succeed and will the box shift in 3rd with or without teeth grinding ??

Simply stunning, amazing craftsmanship Sir! What an amazing build you are doing! I can't wait to see it in person someday! Jesus! You even built your own heater log yourself! POW!!! Mind blown!

more problems here with my input drive shaft seal, the lip in the front (dust seal) is not sealing the input shaft... the seal fitted my straight axle box without a problem tho... so did a little modification to make it work with the seal that i have.
so no metal shavings from the ring gear and starter, or other dirt can enter my seal and destroy it

How are the mating teeth on the slider part?
I've seen that a lot. It's like there's an inner seal held with the compression ring spring and an outer dust seal. Some shafts have a longer flat surface.
Interesting fix you made. |

@BarryL
How are the mating teeth on the slider part?
Teeth on the slider were in reasonable condition
compared to the ones on the 3rd gear
material on the slider must be a bit harder or better quality
than the gear part.. |

That was a ton of work, but it will all be worth it when you're cruising with a quiet gear box...well aside from the Reduction Whine! |

Did you sandblast the underside, or just sand, and wire brush it to clean it up? It looks awesome. |
