When we bought our rig, it came with a broken digital clock LCD. At no extra charge! I want to fix it.
Are the LCD or complete clock available? Would a VW dealer still carry them? _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

Yes it has power. You can read a partial of the segments but the rest of the screen (lcd) is blackened, which is a sign of the LCD being broken. _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

Mk2 Golf/Jetta clocks are a direct bolt in, but the illumination has a slight greenish tinge to it _________________ Casey--

Greenish tint is fine with me. Might give the Westy some character. What year golf or Jetta are we talking? _________________ '90 Westy / automatic.

question:; I have yet to pull apart the clock (digital, 1986 van), but mine works except I cant set the time, the hour can be set but not the minutes, the switch to set minutes no longer works, it doe not respond to pressing.
if I were to open up the clock, are the little time set switches accessible for cleaning of the contacts?
has anyone repaired the time set switches before and has a procedure???
thanks
in advance

The buttons used to set the time often get misaligned, which then leads to the symptoms you described. Pay close attention to how well the buttons move in and out. If they're cocked at all, they may not be making contact _________________ Casey--

|
|
Winston's clock used to be the most accurate vehicular clock I'd ever encountered, is that no longer. Last year it started losing two minutes, then four minutes, then six minutes... It's up to eight, now, and it seems to go BACK to eight very quickly when I reset it.
Nothing has changed in Winston's electronic status, the clock hasn't been bumped or damaged--I suppose it just could have worn out. Any ideas? If 'replace the clock' is the answer, I'm open about where to get a new one.
I like that clock. I HAVE looked for a small modern clock that I could just stick over the display.

Most likely a capacitor is failing. Usually the first thing to fail on an electronic circuit. For older devices, routinely replace all the capacitors.
I have a radio controlled digital clock from the late 1990s that has worked well all these years. Never needs adjusting or setting for daylight savings. Unfortunately it is no longer made, and there is no such thing as a compact radio controlled clock for automotive. You would think there would be a huge market for such a device, but nobody makes one. _________________ Vanagon ’83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |

Does anyone still have Quartz clock for 1991 vanagon? Mine has black spots on the screen and display is out. I need to replace it. Thanks Pawel |

95$ bucks is a little steep for my liking considering it is a 25 year old technology that may brake anytime. I was thinking more of a 10$ plus shipping unless there is something magic about those clocks that I am not aware of. |

Too bad the kid from TX is moving to another country, I am sure he could whip something up.
What is special, the rareness of them I suppose. Watch eBay, never know what could turn up. _________________ Live Fulltime in motorhome
