I am working on a suspension redo on the front of my 90 Vanagon.
I already have a big brake kit that I built myself that works on either the late or early Vanagon spindles

For this brake swap, I machined the rotors to use as hubs.
For the new suspension setup, I need some new spindles as I have modified my existing spindles.

The main problem now is that I can only find early spindles for sale in all the usual places.

Been a minute since I have looked into any of this but I think I recall there being a difference in the early and late Vanagon wheel bearings and a quick search on Rockauto shows that there are different outer wheel bearings.

I believe the main difference is the ID of the early bearing but the OD is the same.

Can anyone confirm that all I need to do is buy an early outer bearing and I can use my later rotor that I have turned into a hub on the early spindles?

Yes, the outer bearing OD is the same, all years.
The ID got larger early in the 84 model year when PS became available.
Make sure you get a matching pair with regard to manual or PS since the tie rod location differs and thus steering ratio differs.

I have a couple of extra sets of early spindles if you need a set. I'm up in Summit County. PM me and we can touch base.

Sweet! I could tolerate a little stop by Outer Range Brewing on my way to pick up some spindles.
I'm in. PM sent
