Are those wheels powder coated or rattle can? Either way, wax them like no tomorrow man.

But holy cow, looks great so far! Very Happy

Thank you! I appreciate the comments and tips - so, I sanded the rims with 80, 150, then 220 grit, then scotchbrite, and then a rattle can of Rustoleum Enamel, light coat first then hit it with a torch, then another light coat repeat etc...it cost a total of 8 bucks and an hour. You recommend waxing them huh? Noted, I shall do just that. Laughing

What a great find. I would be as excited as you if I found that one.
That interior looks like it's in great condition. I would cover the rear seats with something if I were to put my dogs on them. Even of you don't care for the vinyl, try and save it. It's good stuff and almost impossible to find a replacement match for the vinyl. I also found out the hard way that the vinyl doesn't like real cold weather, it can crack when you sit on them and then those cracks become large rips.
Great color too. You really scored it looks like. Very Happy

Thanks loads! It feels like I scored big time! Thank you for the tips on the interior. I will be sewing (yeah yeah I know) some new covers for those seats, and I will heed your advice and save the OG ones - thanks again!

So, today, after much debating, I decided to fit the seats I had in my Squareback, into the Bus. The light brown leather ones a few pics back were from a 92-95 Jaguar XJ40, and are super comfortable but I decided that the only seats that float my vintage VW boat, are Porsche seats, so here are some from a 928S, I love them and I'm glad I made the swap...

I've also made progress on the interior by carpeting the floor, making new kick panels and carpeting them...

..and also one for behind the passenger seat, where I assume a sink/cooker/fridge used to be.

I pulled the old panels off, and soaked them in water. Then I laid something really heavy and flat on them, to flatten them out. Once dry and flat I used them as a template for new hardboard that I bought from Home Depot - $5 for a 2'x4', cut them to shape and used 3M Super 90 spray glue to fix the carpet to them. Time will tell if its hardy enough but I think it'll work.

Here's some more pictures of the rear interior...

Is the "beading" or the trim for around the cupboards outer edges available? It's done that saggy thing that I've seen on so many.

So, up in the headliner, I have this light box thingy. Has anyone seen this before? Is it stock or an aftermarket thing?

I have been lucky, it's all here

I think someone installed that light fixture.
You can take a heat gun on that white beading and it will flatten out and
look good again. You can heat it up and peel it out of the cabinet, heat it up and flatten it and then reinstall it.
This also looks to be a "deluxe" model that someone did a nice job of putting westy cabinets in. Very Happy

Thank you Bala. To be honest, I really don't have much of a vision other than get it solid and protected (rubberized undercoat, welded up, dent repair, reliability) and as I mentioned I'm in the vehicle graphics field so I am going to wrap the bus in a gloss sunflower yellow, with a white top. This will allow me to try and preserve as much of the OG paint as I can. Obviously, a wrap can be taken off and the color changed too.

Thanks a million! I was not sure if it would work but it seems to be growing on me!

Left unchecked, they will breed like cockroaches.

Welcome! You have done a great amount of work! Looks like you are really getting into this. Cool

Ahh I missed this post - thank you, I really got into my 67 bug and my 73 square but this bus blows my mind, I love it! I wish I'd been able to afford a bus sooner!

Recent weeks have seen a little work, and some good successes. A real bummer here in Utah is within the last week, the temperatures have plummeted. But still, I've managed a few things, firstly, Ive finished the interior panels up front and cleaned the seats up...

...then I've carpeted the side of the jump seat, the B pillar by the sliding door, and installed some late model type 3 seat belts with the retracting mechanism in the front and a non-retracting three point seat belt for the jump seat.

I didn't want a modern stereo in the dashboard, so I installed a switched 400W four channel amp, RCA cables straight to iPod, all hidden behind the jump seat in that recess behind the backing.

that way, I can keep the clean stock look but have the hidden luxury of mp3.

I have also pulled the z-bed for restoration. well, it's just a repaint and a reupholster, the mechanism is on great shape. More to come...

Yeah, I know....I kinda didn't want to do it, but the dent just pushed me to it. I'm going to try and keep the rest of the og paint, and wrap the body, so I can take the wrap off if need be.

Little update on the progress of the van...

I've gutted the rear, and deadened the noise with quick roof and insulated bubble.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then I began taking the mustard seat covers from the z-bed and jump seat. I'm lucky, they are in ok shape and will be great for copying with new material. I am lucky twice as the in-laws have a friend who has the necessary skills to make me new covers.

The foam, although a little stained, is fully useable and not crumbling or smelly.

The armrest from the z-bed is weak. The fabric lasted great but the wood is very brittle so I may make a new one

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I've also made some new interior panels. I'm no woodworker but fortunately I am not so unskilled that I couldn't use the original clips and holes - instead of firing self taping screws into her body

Because I am on a budget (a tight one) I've been using the 5x3 recycled carpet bought at O'Reillys. I used 2mm hardboard from the Moan Depot, and 1/4" ply as well. The most expensive part of this interior tidy up so far is the 3M Super77 glue.

Thank you! I took the bus for a good drive this weekend and I have to say, sliding door aside, it was much much quieter in there, so I do feel that all this effort is worth it.

I'm glad to hear it made a difference. I'm doing something similar to what you did except I'm going to use heavy vinyl on top. You can see it on the last page of my bus thread in my signature.
