Hi,

struggling with this one. Re-fitting the front glass to frame seal on my convertible 1971 super.

Rears went in a treat, slipped together and all good. Fronts are being an absolute pig.
On paper its a simple enough job. Attach seal to glass, slip into frame (using petroleum aka Vaseline) but its too tight and it won't slip into place. Difficult to get apart, harder to reassemble.

anyone else had this, any suggestions, tomorrow I'm going to try WD40 it, maybe that will be more slippery, as a last resort I'll try to open up the inner frame channel and then tap it back but I don't think that's the right way to go.

Many thanks in advance

PG

I used a product called spray silicone. It's oily and VERY slippery as well. I agree that that can be a bit of a nightmare to get in.

Some people make wood jigs and place the frame in it and then make a press to push the glass and seal in the frame. There's pictures in the gallery of some of the homemade jigs.

I would not touch the inner frame channel. Is it the same windshield? Is it the correct seal? I always had luck using a non grit hand soap as a lubricant. Is the string you are using to thick that it is making the seal even tighter?

no its not the front windscreen its the side wind up windows. (not the vent or 1/4 window) All parts the same bar new seals.

I'll try WD40 as I've got some, then spray silicone (thanks wcfvw69)

Ok. Misunderstood what you were saying. I have the opposite problem. I can't get my glass to stay in the frame.

Well I got it in using WD40 which is probably silicon based, annoyingly its so slippery it keeps coming apart which is the opposite problem.

laughing and swearing out loud in a crazy way at this ! Evil or Very Mad

So made up a jig of sorts, I'm hoping in a few days the silicon and vaseline will absorb into the rubber and it will become sticky again and hold together. Not ideal but seems its just the way it is. No glue.
