Im half way thinking about building a front bench seat for my thing. I have built thousands of seat frames for various vintage vehicles and Im thinking I could build a sweet bench with bucket backs. Just curious if anyone has seen any thing like this in a Thing?

You would have to rethink the e-brake handle. It sounds like a cool idea though!

I could have sworn I saw someone take a bench seat out of another car and bending to fit to use it up front on a Thing. Try searching the gallery to see if you find anything.

I swear I've seen someone use a bench seat from an older 80's or 90's toyota truck that looked real sharp. Keep searching. I'm liking this idea for my build Very Happy

Yeah I'm thinking something like that only a bit more cush and off road'ish. I build custom seat frames for Hot Rods so I'm just trying to think out of the box and still keep it fun and functional. Bucket bases and a bench back might be a good option?

So Im thinking more off road style seating but with a bench style look. maybe 2 bucket bases attached in the center. I would add fairly deep or high bolsters on the center edge of the seat base while forgoing the bolster on the entry side of the seat base. I hate climbing over high bolsters to get in already high vehicles. I would attach them with some type of center console with a slot built in so the e brake can remain and be used in its original location. Both seating bases would be able to flip up and forward independently to allow access to the battery stowed under each of the seats. The seat frame base would be built to have as much surface area of the floor as possible to support the weight and abuse of off road. I might even span the distance between the center hump and outer pan frame and eliminate mounting to the floor entirely. Im also toying with building the Bengels air suspension seat(Bengels ASS system) into the frame. It is a great small air ride system we developed a few years back for competition Rock Crawlers.

The back rest will be a bench back but with deep off road style bolsters to keep me in place when off road. One set of adjusters will operate the ride angle of the entire seat back. No separate adjustment. Im even thinking headrests with speakers for the CB might be worth the effort while I'm doing it. Being it is an open car even though Im in sunny Southern California maybe seat heaters might be in order? Any thoughts... Yea's or Nea's

Something like we built here only in a bench design...
