I've been working on a 74 bus with FI, the fuel pump is not working, but it looks like it has the same fuel pump that I've seen on type 3 FI cars with 3 nipples on it, all the hose looks stock and unmolested so i'm just curious if this is right or should I get the other style pump.

looks like the right one

L-jet uses the one on the left, but there were some odd things on early 74 FI buses so I can't say definitively that it's not correct. Does the aircleaner look like later FI buses?, or is it oddball?

They will both work fine. The type 3/4 three port pump just requires an extra Tee xor the return line.

Personally.....as high a quality as the three port D-jet was.....they are all too old and have some failure points. Just use an L-jet pump or any two port pump with correct flow volume. Most of the type 3 and 4 car people have been going to two port modern pumps.

There is no advantage to the three port pump. I have a whole bucket of them.

I got away from them years ago so I would not be dependent on something I could not get in a pinch. Ray

Hey guys,
Anyone got a line on a good part number to replace this fuel pump? I have a 72 411 that needs one.
Thanks in advance,
Loren

Carter makes all kinds of electric fuel pumps. Do a search and find one that produces the fuel pressure your system needs.

Carbed, right?

If Ray says the later L-jet pump will work I'd use that, still easy to get almost anywhere.

Yes....it will work fine. The airtex 2000 pump will work. Literally hundreds of bosch part number 2 port pumps that will work.

You can run your return line straight to the tank return nipple....or you can put a fuel accumulator betwwen pump and tank and run return to that. Ray

Heck yeah, I stuck one in a squareback a few years ago on Ray's advice.

Be aware that buses and D-jet VWs typically use different fuel filters, which has to match the pump. The stock T3 pump has the same 7mm hose in and out, while the bus pumps typically have 7mm hose out, and 10mm hose in. (Approximate nipple sizes are 1mm larger.)

Here is a "bus" filter:

And the "D-Jet" filter:
https://www.vwispwest.com/311133511C.html?p=c3E9ZnVlbCtmaWx0ZXI=

The filters aren't 100% exclusive to those two styles, but a quick peek under your Volkswagen will tell you whatcha got.
