I was cruising the classifieds and randomly came across my old '62 ragtop being listed for sale.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1824404

I know that I'm probably late to the game seeing as it was posted in August, but BUYER BEWARE! I sold this car in 2011 for $5,600. It doesn't appear to have been changed at all outside of the engine and roof rack.

- It was starting to show some serious signs of rot in the bottom of the doors and rear quarters.
- It had been love-tapped in the front at some point and the hood had a 1/4 inch of gap in the center.
- I'd say it was a 10 footer paint-wise. I can still see the same paint issues it had at the time (little lump on the decklid, for example), so it hasn't been repainted.
- I completed the interior and while it wasn't bad, I was in high school and college at the time so... yeah, take that for what it's worth.

It was a fun car and would be a wonderful basis for a restoration. It is not "fully restored" or a "1" on the condition scale.

You got that right! Has several incorrect bits for a '62 as well. "Restored" can mean different things to different people, but that's hardly what I'd call a condition "1" vehicle. And if what the PO said about the paint work & rust is still true, it's not even worth half that asking price.

No, they are definitely not stock. The guy I bought it from was sort of cobbling together an interior made almost exclusively from a single bolt of tan/gold material. The cardboard material underneath everything may have been stock I guess...
