Hi all- does anyone know of a close match for the Chrome Yellow color that would come in a spray can? I will match when I do the respray but I am currently rehabbing the engine bay with clean up, surface rust touch up and a new battery tray. I'd like to find something that is "close enough" for this part of the project. Thanks-

This is a little insane, but so am I.
I had to do an emergency chrome yellow match-up in Los Alamos this summer:
http://www.itinerant-air-cooled.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=12674#p215993
VHT Engine enamel Gloss Yellow and Chrysler Hemi Orange (just the inner two caps in the photograph).
You can use a Preval sprayer which allows you to match by spraying the VHT paint into the little glass jar (paper towel over it so you don't get spattered but the vapors can release).
I brushed the entire windshield channel and halfway down the belt line. Your engine compartment will be easier to match.

Krylon's Burgendy rattle can is about a perfect match for Chianti Red on a '71. I just did a bit of interior touchup on mine.

There is an existing thread on this topic, I am sure of it. _________________ John

I thought there would be. Did a search and could not find one.
Can you find it?
Thanks

One thread is something like "L-345 in a spray can" and the other one is like this: "close matches with Krylon". The two threads have been intermixed at times. _________________ Larry in OB

Rust-Oleum's "Canvas White" is a 99% match to VW's L90D Pastel White:

I used it on my old bus years ago and it blended great:

I'm not sure how this works to update colors, but I can add:
L20A Marino yellow
L21H Marino yellow 77
These are very close, but subtly different (see the thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=3678124#3678124 )
but both have a pretty good match in

Does it have the proper chrome yellow undertone? When maringelb L21H and Taigagrun L63H4 hit the sunlight, they freak out digital cameras with the proper chrome yellow. Otherwise, they look like dull sage army green and old farm implements . . .

Hey -- it's Krylon Farm and Implement, meant for road graders. It's a decent match if you have to have something to keep the rust off until it can be done properly. Oh, and it gradually turns pink in the sun. So, don't expect too much. _________________ John

I found some paint at Jerry's Artarama that is a really close match to the chrome yellow. They had one that was a shade or two darker that I might give a try if this one is too light.

L20A Marino Yellow=Duplicolor DA1663 School Bus Yellow
I used Duplicolor DA1663 School Bus Yellow 4 years ago still looks ok.
In the pictures I painted the whole bus except for the rear hatch and engine cover.

2 coats of white primer and 2 coats of original VW Cloud White (via English Auto Paint). They can put the auto paint put into spray paint cans if you dont have sprayer. |
Never heard of English Auto Paint. Is it the one in Dallas?
Thanks

There are several English Auto Paint stores in the DFW area.
I've used then a few times. |
