This is the most information rich thread I have ever seen! I can't believe how long a page lasts. So much innovation and good practices. Thank you so much!

With the flexi solar panels are you still using on-board charge controllers? Would you care to put up a pic of how you mounted them?

Best!

I guess when there's not a bunch of bickering each pic heavy post can make for very long pages. I will be surprised if this response is on the same page.

The flexible solar panels have come a long way recently. I was never a fan back in the day, but now they are much better and very light. I mounted them with a bead of 100% silicon for easy removal in the future. Products like 3m 5200 would be a bad idea.

The charge controller is mounted next to the water tank.

I also think it's very important to secure and provide fuse protection on a battery bank. This is a huge amount of weight and stored energy that can go very wrong very quick. The back seat has some very well thought out collision in mind.

But not so much for roll over. A sturdy enclosure is a must IMO. The enclosures behind the seats are very well engineered for this purpose.

I'm not trying to over answer your question, just trying to share some info and insight of a madman.

Thank you for the kind words, and I hope this helps.

A pic that didn't upload earlier on the pests and critters.

Yummy wire work! I did not know about the use of yellow for ground. Thanks for the inspiration, my next wiring won't be up to that standard but maybe a little better!

Strong looking horses!

That wiring is artwork! I love looking at it a lot more than I love doing it but the payoff is worth it.

Hi Kevin!

I just caught on many months of work you've done on your van!

This is truely an amazing build Smile

Aloha!

Hey Alika !!

I thought you had given up on me... It's good to here from you. I thought I saw some where you were looking for blue interior parts? I have a nice blue zbed interior from the syncro. Let me know what your looking for.

Cheers....

Wassup Kevin? Cool

No, not given up, but my presenc eon the forum highly depends on how busy I am. When I'm not, I'm here often, and lately, I've been rather busy...

I wish I could get the Z bed, mine is not a Z-bed :/

I need upholstery for the middle seat, it's a 2 seater with a center foldable armrest, and an external fixed armrest.

If you're not doing anything with the Z-bed and you need something to keep you busy, I could buy the upholstery from it, and mount it here on a different color Z-bed when I find one? Shipping the whole z-bed to Hawai'i is unconceivable Crying or Very sad

Aloha!

Thanks for checking in my friend. I've been driving it around a bit here and there, but I'm still tying up loose ends. My latest is AC. I will try to share the process.

I hope you are having a good summer.

It's time for an update I guess. I hate to be that thread that just ends.

There's not a lot to share but I guess it's been almost six months. We have had some un beach like weather this winter, lots of snow. The van has been living inside its box for the most part.

I hope every one had a great holiday season and new year.

my last post was when I was knee deep in the AC
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I will share more on this once I've done some more testing. I've mounted a 17000 but compressor in spare tire compartment for running the westy AC of of shore power and or camp site plug in.

I guess I will share some of my favorite new mods. I hated how shakey or loose the rear table was when stowed. Cranking the knob tight under the table helped, but not great.

I added these simple bumpers or door stops.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

What a difference. I mounted them a little lower then where the table would rest naturally to put it in a bit of a bind. What a difference, as of now it's just screwed straight into the panel. There's no backer seams very strong for now.

The water heater is way cool. I managed to get an insinkerator behind the kitchen drawer. As much as space is a premium in these ol things there is some wasted space to be found. Plumbing coming soon. The picture is at the bottom of this post.

This one I love...
I had a tv that I was stowing under the rear bench and just hated that idea. Originally I researched the fold down tvs and they just don't get good reviews even the rare high dollar model. I finally folded and bought a 17 inch fold down with dvd. One thing I did not want was permanent permanent and the option to travel without. The bracket is meant to be mounted under the head liner.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I decided to mount the bracket above the headliner. What I did not show was I apoxied a piece of 4X4 3/4 plywood to the steel roof above the center of this bracket. All the screws can be installed without the tv and it looks just fine.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The tv itself looks great and doesn't hang near as low as a tin top trunk line.

I'm quite pleased.

Still tuning on the engine but it's running great.

I hope this thread never ends. Amazing build. You are a true craftsman and your approach has been methodical and meticulous. If I'm ever in the market to buy a syncro, I could only hope to buy a van from an owner like you. A huge amount of respect for what you have accomplished. Please keep us posted.

Thank you for the kind words ALstew. I guess I'm long overdue for an update.

So here we go....

I pulled the microwave out to run new copper to the cooktop. Earlier on I had redone the propane tank and never hooked it up.

I wanted a light in the microwave so I added one to the cover. This way I can look at the food once it turns off or since I use it for storage. I guess geek is a better explanation.

It's a thing of beuty.

The next thing was the water heater. One of our favorites.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

However it needed to be dummy proof, 1800w inverter vs microwave and water heater. A 20 amp 3 way switch so you can only run one at a time.

The neutrals and grounds get crimped together.

The insinkerator cranks out the heat. The water is coffe hot or ready to reconstitute a freeze dried meal, so a mixing valve was a must. I can go from nuclear hot to cold.

A simple pex valve on the side of the cabinet makes it easy to adjust to whatever temp I want.

This is the three way switch for the water heater or microwave.

One of my favorite mods was making little tables for the front here's the smaller one.

I did get out to Everybus18 and had a blast what a great bunch of folks.

The front skid plate was a bit of project. I would have made it out of one piece of aluminum but I didn't have it so I pieced it together. A few years ago I moved into modern times with a cnc plazma table. What's more amazing is I actually figured out how to run it. I love the iron worker but she's getting a little dusty these days Crying or Very sad

Sorry our paths did not cross. I'm going to try my best to make it to the High Country Bus Festival.

July is always a coin toss for me with the boat thing.

If not EB is going to be an annual for me. I hope...

I was lucky enough to go for a ride in this van over the weekend and to give it a good once over. I have to say that it's even nicer in person. His work is top notch and his skill set is up there. Kevin was kind enough to hook me up with the rear seat out of his Syncro donor van, so I could keep my own build moving forward. Keep an eye on this thread!
