I wonder why someone would feel the need to remove the 1300 emblem from the decklid on the ad.... _________________ .

I haven't seen it before without the badge.
It was likely released transitionally between '66 and '67, and they weren't sure what the new '67s would look like yet. The ads were often retouched to preview model year changes.
This Ghia ad is a good example. The car is pictured with the new wrap-around turn signals, but the reflection in the bumper shows the older bullet style.
The most extreme example is this ad, which was retouched to show major detail changes. How many can you find?

^ that's a lot of retouch work, remember this is pre-photoshop so would involve painting onto a photo. you would think it would be easier and cheaper to scribble on another car! america tended to get changes, to lights etc, before europe and other markets so that would explain why those are frequently retouched, but good spot on the kg reflection. _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Wilt did a later ad where he is seen driving a 1979 Rabbit. When asked why he drives a Rabbit, Wilt responds, "Because it has more headroom than my Rolls Royce."
