how I get involved with this crap is beyond me....
66 bug, adjustable beam installed elsewhere. the steering shaft is bottomed in the tube and for obvious reasons rubs.
I pulled the U clamp off the box, checked it both ways and one way wasn't going to fly at all.
I am out of ideas. last ditch effort would be weld up the notches on the U clamp and re grind notches in it. I need to get the steering box up like 3-5mm to prevent rubbing in the tube. even at that, it wouldn't be centered.
I have no idea who made the beam. like I said, I'm out of ideas any help before I go and re-index the notches on the U clamp?
thanks in advance _________________

honestly you don't need the notch on the beam itself, grind it off and just center the steering shaft in the tube and off you go |

I think I would much rather re-notch the U bracket than clean off the nubs on the beam. I would hate to see the steering box dance around on the beam _________________

The notches are on the clamp. The clamp pointing one way for a bug and another for a ghia. You're right some don't put the 'nubs' on a tube of the beam. Just another sign of the lowering of standards for replacement parts. Check out those home made from OG sheetmetal bolt 'keepers'
