Guys,
I'm at a loss as to which is the correct part number for this part. This is for a 1979 bus transmission. I've looked all over including checking ETKA and can't seem to find the correct number. There seems to be a change after 1972. Your help is appreciated.

I am finding conflicting info about part # 211 301 289A. CIP and WW sell the early rubber bellows under that number.

There appear to be the pleated accordion style, available on the net listed as -72, and a "mushroom" style (shown below) that shares the same part number but is long gone off the shelves. I think SGKent posted a while ago about this, but I could be making that up. Here's a pic of it in front:

EDIT: 211 711 115B is the mushroom part number, courtesy of an old thread by Webwalker.... SGKent then said some of the boots [were] available from VW Classic Parts.

Now...

# 211 711 115A is the later bus (EDIT: rubber boot) that the hockey stick/nosecone gets. Ratwell lists it as NLA... Thanks for the pic Colin! (I previously called this "cheap plastic," but only because I have felt age-hardened boots that felt that way.)

It has been said that the 211- 711 167A early shift rod boot will work. You need to tye wrap it to the nose cone.

But but but it feels like plastic when every other owner on the planet fails to Gummi-Fledge it and keep the bus stored indoors for its long rests…… Cool

(Seriously, I've only felt two, but they've both been rock-hard.)

Brian, we must Gummi-Fledge our shift boots schnell!

That works for me sometimes but usually I just get too carried away and just go for it.

Puh-lease. Rubbers don't do well with age.

Okay, let's get back on topic. Do I really need to order this part from Europe? There must be one somewhere in the domestic market. Robbie, get your head out of the gutter.

He started it.

Like Tcash said, an early accordion style boot will work, perhaps requiring a hose clamp. If this is a concours bus, yes Europe might be the only answer.

Tcash also has a NOS pictured in his gallery, perhaps you could sleuth around the internet to find more?

As will a couple of loose laps of saran wrap. Now don't go drag this into the gutter.

used or VWHeritage in the UK. Take your pick. I've looked all over here. NOS ones are too hard from sitting 35 years. Ask me how I know. Grease keeps the used one flexible. Used come up from time to time. If you buy a new repop from the UK let us know and we can maybe put together a group buy and split shipping.

If the trans is out and the nosecpne off be sure to install one of these. It keeps the bearing from eating into the nosecone which eventually causes shifting problems and gear pop outs in 4th:

Can I resurrect this thread?

I am looking for the part too - 211 711 115 A.

Is it really only available from Europe? My '78 just stopped shifting properly, and realize I need to replace the coupler bushing, and while poking around down there, found this part about to fall off. 211 711 115 A

Luckily it was together enough I could read a part number off it, as I couldn't find out what it was called.

you can get reproductions from Europe too but the postage is a killer.

thanks.

that sounds a bit pricey - for that much, I could get one shipped from the UK. I read on this thread that the NOS boots are brittle with age, so I think I want to get a new one anyway.

You probably like to look a gift horse in the mouth too. Although it is not pricey I probably would have sold it to you for $10. Now I shall keep it for myself.
