I was wondering if anyone could share the square footage or maybe measurements of the rear deck side to side and from the back hatch down to the floor under the rear seat ?

I need to purchase sound proofing materials to cover this whole area but I haven't the opportunity to rip out my Westy interior to measure it up beforehand Sad ...

Thanks in advance if you can help ....

In retrospect, is there ever such a thing as 'extra' sound deadening ??

I am sure I'll find piles of places to use it up ...

the metal over the engine is quite stout (and corrugated) - rap it and you'll see that no deadener is really needed

OTOH, if you have some left over from other spot, cut it into strips and put it in the valleys (like I did)

put closed cell foam over that and then MLV - worst thing is you'll just be adding some cushy base to sleep on

Thanks for the tips. Any noise advantage of the metal engine hatch over the fiberglass hatch ? I have both, the metal is quite a bit heavier. I also removed all my factory sound deadener crap that was over top of the tranny.

I'm looking at products from second skin since I have a dealer within reasonable distance.

Many of their products are multi layered approaches where you can put down an MLV or other products and also coat with a product similar to the lizardskin that insyncro showed in use. I have to read and talk with them on what is right for my application. They have many different grades of products and for many different types of noise. I want to do this once and right the first time

I'd expect FG to be less noisy, but more likely to burn thru in an engine fire...
