Seats?!? Pffft. We bought a new place three years ago and it meant working another year before retiring. Now that hurt. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

I really like that. And the junkyards are FULL of Dodge vans with dead trans. |
Probably not of the vintage to have these seats. I've been checking. I've had two '95s that needed transmissions but my '05 has not needed repair and these seats are from the version of the van newer than mine and don't suffer from that old curse. You'll be looking for a wrecked one. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

I bought a set of seats from an Audi TT from a junkyard for 300 a set they are leather and have seat heat. Oh yea they are recaro's. They do not have arm rests but I did not like the arm rests. _________________ Joining now is our new 1982 diesel. This is an ongoing project under construction. |

I found some Recaros from a '93 VW MK2 Jetta on craigslist. They are amazingly comfortable, but obviously come with no armrests. I'd like to get armrests attached somehow - does anybody know if armrests can be attached to any Recaro seat without too much hassle? My seats kinda look like Recaro Trophys. |

. . .Any ideas . . . |
In my experience, some of the most comfortable seats have been in French cars. I always thought that French cars are so slow you end up spending a lot of time in them, so, their seats HAVE to be comfortable.
My dead brother-in-law had a Pontiac Gran Prix SJ with damn comfortable FRONT seats, the back seats, well, fugetaboutit.
I spent some time in the passenger seat of a full-size Ford police Interceptor. Damn comfortable seats.
The seats I fondly recall as being primus inter pares in the world of ass holding were in a corporate jet kept at the ready by our local Air National Guard. The passenger seats looked only like two slabs set at a slightly obtuse angle to one another, but they were upholstered in leather over what must have been foam speced out by NASA.
My advise is to stay away from those highly sculpted, Ricky-racer type of seats - they might look cool, but they restrict you movement too much. After all, the one luxury of a van is that you have plenty of room to shift your sitting position.

I'm bumping this as I have the same question.
Anyone know if arm rests can be added to the Recaro's w/o armrests? I'm thinking the frame may have the receptors for them, but don't want to do any exploratory surgery to find out.

The LS Recaros (VW mk2 power recaros are LS-B) don't have provisions for armrests, the armrest pivots need to be attached to the seat backs. LXF, Specialist, and Orthoped have armrest provisions though from what I've read.
I'm gathering everything to tackle this project and will document it along the way. I have 'donor' vanagon seats to scavenge parts and adjustable arm rests from, and have had trophy recaros for a few years.
I held off because they're black and the interior is brown, but I found lseat.com sells covers for pretty cheap ($300/pr) and they sell fabric by the square foot. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) they'll be leather, but I'm just happy they'll match the interior. For the price, I'm not expecting the covers to be perfect, but it's a lot less than any local auto upholsterer would charge, and recaros are tough seats to get right... |

I did the T&C stow and go seats and like them so far. So does the wife and she's a tad picky.
I'm in the armrest camp and while these are a bit higher than ideal, they work well.
One of the best features is the fold flat bit. It really opens up the cab once you set up your site. _________________ 82 Vanagon Westy - AAZ 1.9 TD, HE200 Holset, WAIC, 27.75 dia tires, Electric power steering, 5-speed AAP w/.078 5th

Haven't installed them yet. I talked to Ben T Syncro about it and he said the following:
The Vanagon armrests can be attached by welding or screwing in the pivots onto the Recaro frame.
The Eurovan armrests can be as well but required a different system. I am designing the mount which is still in its early development stages. My fabricator is delaying the process. |

In the yesteryears of my car play I've had success with adapting the Audi armrest to the VW sport seats or semi-recarros we called them. Either by welding the plate to the seat frame or using rivnuts.
I'm not sure this is an option but it's a thought! |
