1989 with jump seats, table and EZ bed.... Two previous owners. Been in storage for three years due to non-start. Recently installed new tires in anticipation of getting the engine going... $3,000.00 (142k miles).

An ALH TDI engine in the near future..

Agreed on loving the handling. I've not driven as many models of Vanagons as I should have to say this, but I think the slightly lowered suspension of these models makes them the best handling and road manners of all in stock form. It even manages to have less nose dive on hard breaking, and less body roll.

Nice find!

Good find! There was one just like it on a lot here a few years back for $1800, running but leaking. I tried to get someone to buy it. Eventually turned up for sale again by the guy who bought it to part out but did not have the heart since it was so nice and had a perfect diagonal stripe interior. Don't know what happened to it.

Someone buy this!!!

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/cto/5408348318.html

1985 Volkswagen Vanagon - $800 (Takoma Park)

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

1985 volkswagen vanagon

condition: salvage
cylinders: 4 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: gas
title status: clean
transmission: automatic
type: mini-van

Got this expecting to get it running; it ran with a BAD water pump when I bought it. It seemed to run on all cylinders to move it around on the lot.
When removing the old water pump, I broke a stud in the case; then I broke a small drill bit in there.
Will be honest about what I think this needs.
I'm a mechanic, with OJT on air-cooled VWs.
Have only the ignition key; no door keys, though they can be made from the code on the latch mechanism.
Comes with a new battery.

PostPosted: Wed Jan 27, 2016 10:01 am    Post subject: Seattle - mercedes wheels ($400 for whole car) Reply with quote

I saw this yesterday while browsing craigslist (no association with the seller):

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/5403613213.html

I am not sure exactly where the best place is to post this on this forum...so I thought I'd try it here. I just purchased a set of Mercedes wheels so I am not in the market but I was thinking....

Take the wheels off and turn the rest of the car over to "cash for junk cars"? potential to get the wheels fairly cheap in this scenario? Probably most viable for anyone who can tow it themselves.

Again, just wanted to share if it helps someone...

CL ad:
complete car with all most brand new tires on it,
the car runs, but needs to be towed
head gasket is leaking oil into water,
car has sat for 4 years in a shed that leaked, car is really straight

clean title,,
text for pictures
first $$$$400 takes it
tires are that alone
leather interior is mildew a little,
trunk pan needs replaced to fix car and head gasket
tranny is good,
fuel filter is rusted threw, it can not be started, it does start for sure,

$500

If closer I'd have it for the carot interior, mirrors, and other misc parts.

Wish this van was closer to me.

looks like it could be a decent van with a new motor.

Or there's more than the asking price worth of parts here.

Folks,
When the ad is pulled the link dies and those of us who did not see it are SOL. It's not a lot of work to copy the ad text and paste it in your post here so the glory of the ad outlives its run on CL. The ad photos might not copy over along with the text so you'll need to right-click on an ad photo, select Properties and copy the Address (URL) to paste here bracketed by HTML tags (starts with ) but it's not hard. For example:

Aircooled Volkswagen Vanagon - $600 (Fall Creek)

1980 Volkswagen Vanagon

fuel: gas
title status: parts only
transmission: manual

I have an early 80s vanagon. This thing is basically rust free. The camper interior is sitting inside. It was unbolted years ago to clean out the inside and my interest faded 2.0 FI engine turns over but I've never tried starting it. Previous owner told me it ran when parked... but didn't they all? :) It has been sitting for about 10 years. This would be a pretty great start to a project for someone or lots of really good parts. I just want it out of the yard.

No title and I have no way of getting the original. I will give you a bill of sale but have zero interest in doing any leg work beyond that to get a title if that is your goal.

This is an $600 Vanagon. Just to clear up some questions in advance: you will not be driving it on a tour of the continental United States next month, your kids are not going to be camping in it this weekend, and you're probably not going to make it your daily driver with $10 worth of spark plugs from Autozone. :)

$600 or best offer

Thanks for looking!

Clean it up and run it or a LOT of good parts. Might even qualify for the good deals on GOOD vans.
