In the pics it doesn't look like the van has a grille / headlight set up. Not sure what configuration you'll going for, but I have a stock grill and rectangular / square light set up with buckets, adjusters, and lamps that I'll ship to you my cost if you need it. Be fun to contribute to the project and the team.
Above is original from my 86 Syncro. Let me know. _________________ 86 Syncro GL Tin Top

Eric
I'm in for a Windshield when you need it, let me know and I can put it on order for you. You already know where to get it.

Is this anything like the race known as LeMans, or is this a female body part or citrus fruit joke I'm not getting?? _________________ '82 SyncroWesty, the first ever conversion.'06 Subaru 2.5L |

Wow .. I remember hearing about 'LeMons' years ago but had forgotten about it. Didn't know GW was 'racing'. The coming 'Build' competition looks hot.
I may be in that general area by then -- may drop by the track. |

Are you going to screw some lightweight carbonate sheets over he side windows? It will help your aerodynamics at the speeds you'll be constantly driving. Also, having taken 2 of these beasts apart recently, the slider and rear hatch are heavy beyond belief. Can you replace these with sheet aluminum and hold them on with pop rivets over the openings. Use a black marker to outtline the window shapes to preserve the Vanagon look. That's probably a massive 100lb weight loss. Then remove the engine cover and build a shroud of acrylic that angles the high pressure air under the vehicle back there up into the cargo area and out the center of the rear to relieve the vacuum. Bonus airflow on the hot engine and bonus driver can see if any smoke/problems are happening with a look at the clear shroud and the air roaring through it.
Looks like a ton of fun. I have a parts van in Spokane if anything comes up. Spare auto, and spare short block, hubs, steering box, etc. _________________ 1987 2WD Wolfsburg Vanagon Weekender "Mango", two fully locked 80 Series LandCruisers. 2017 Subaru Outback boxer. 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20V with rear locking differential, 1990 burgundy parts Vanagon. 1984 Porsche 944, 1988 Toyota Supra 5 speed targa, 2002 BMW 325iX, 1982 Toyota Sunrader |

That's pretty fantastic—and cool to see the whole van racing as opposed to the body slapped over an MR2 (which was also pretty crazy i guess!)
While not having actually raced before but being knee (or possibly neck) deep in an '83 rabbit LeMons build and constantly reading directions, getting donated parts doesn't really count as free right? Or maybe you're already planning the BS inspection bribes?
Excited to see this turn out and there's a chance we may head to that race! |

This is exciting stuff! But should'nt this all be top secret till race day? I don't recall Mercedes F1 showing Maranello everything on Facebook! |

We have some advantages, Go westy has a few as well. We're not trying to hide anything.
We do have to document our spending, and We're using this forum thread as our "Build thread" to show the LeMons officials that we are playing by their rules.
But really, we're going to run circles around Go-westy, ha! let the Sh*t talking commence!
their redline is like 5000 rpm... we're like 7200rpm... and we got Burley.
He's a racing legend, he's like the Stig's cousin or something. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com
