Eric, can you tell us more about this hub for the Porsche brakes? is this an OEM Porsche part you will modify, or does it fit as is?

it should have read, "rear calipers are Boxster S." " Hubs are for the front."
The 993TT front brake kit is something I produced a long time ago for the 2wd Vanagon. It was priced way beyond what most thought was reasonable, so on the shelf it sat waiting for projects like this.
The rear hubs are being drilled for 5x130, and we'll document that process as it happens. Because of our time crunch, we won't have a handbrake solution, but if I have time I'll add a line lock. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

I always forget to find out when this race is. With two Vanagons in it, the reasons to not miss it have doubled. Now to see if I can work it into my schedule... _________________ Tim Potts

Visit to Wagenswest to get the rear hubs drilled for our Porsche wheel and brake set up. Nate knows his stuff, he had all the programming set up on his CNC. He was able to drill the hubs on the spot! ( Thanks Nate! )

Some more progress from Burley! the cage is a real work of art. Burley has really put a ton of thought into the installation. He's designed the cage to be installed in sections after welding because of the tight areas that you can't reach to weld. Genius!

Finally getting a chance to post to our build thread.
The design of our cage is made so it can be installed in modules.
The reason for this is so I can weld around the joints of the tubes while keeping the roof in tact on the van.
The roof add's a considerable amount of stiffness to the chassis , helping it handle much better.
The gw van has the center of the roof chopped out , I suspect to afford clearance to weld the cage and maybe save a couple pounds up high.
I think the negative of making it a flexy flier out weighs the convenience of not having to think when building a cage.
I do have to admit my racing expertise is in building / racing desert cars and trucks.
Never thought I'd try to race a van, seems kinda oxy-moronic , lol . In any case it will be a new experience and tons of fun no matter what and if I'm not careful I'll probably learn something.
It will be interesting to see if that van will dance on the pavement like a class 1 car in the dez lol.
In any case Rubbin is racin so ITS ON !!!
I will post more as time allows and welding progress on the build is made. _________________ Protect your investment !

Check out the Finnish Race Taxi and Frank Braun's splitty bodied vanagon chassis for what a race vanagon can do. Of course Eric knows with his extreme Doka, _________________ Tencentlife said,

Only the best for our LeMons Vanagon...
Here's some more pics from Burley on the cage.
We just received the long wheel studs and lug nuts from Chris at T3 Technique, Thanks Chris!
Does anyone local or close by have a stub axle bearing carrier I could borrow for our rear brake mock up this week? I'm going to try Halsey tomorrow, but putting it out there just in case. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

Hey Eric, what can you tell us about that steering wheel. It looks like it might be comparable to the stock non power steering unit. Is it larger than a power steering model wheel? What year/model of Porsche did it come from? I'm already setting up my wife to go visit her mom in San Rafael that weekend so that I can stop by and check out the race.

It's a direct fit from a 944. I've run these on a lot of my projects. They're getting harder to find, especially the leather wrapped versions. I was checking prices on eBay recently... crazy high!
we're not going to run a dash, ( more weight savings ). _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

Where does is fall size wise when compared to the two different van sizes?

Big progress!
Cage is done, seat mounted.
We've been officially accepted into the race now, so it's for real.

No detachable steering wheel? Gotta love the upright seating position of a Vanagon. _________________

Nice touch with the VIN plate on the rollbar. Very Happy |
Thanks! Burley and I were going for the factory roll cage look.
I just got the van home, making my list of everything that needs doing.
6 weeks to do a complete systems overhaul... feels like one of those unobtainable deadline TV shows like monster garage. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

I have a stub axle bearing carrier sitting on the bench if you still need one. Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this thread today. I have many other parts too if you need any. _________________ Syncronize it!
