No, having Stuart work on your bus..... |
And at the last mini Seattle get together we had, the panel decides to shit out as we leave. For as cool as I think I am, I am not cool yet on the workings of FI and T4. Can I figure it out, sure. Over days and learn as well - I'm just not there.
So Stewie gets all over my 76 like white on rice. Ronin pulls out the tools, Stewy pulls shit off his 78 Auto to see what's wrong on my 76. All this in crappy DARK Seattle pizzly weather in a parking lot at a German restaurant. I was going to get a pull strap and call it good. Not Stuart the Avenger. He figures it down to a bad harness wire going to the double relay. Me? I learned I had a double relay that night. He rigs it up then and there - I drive home. Tip of the hat for sure to the kid. Cheers & Brost!
I know we bust on him all the time. Cuz its fun. But this kid has some street credit based on actual hands on experience and listening to others. Yes, buses were hurt for him to gain this knowledge, but Id let him work on my stuff anytime - albeit with supervision
|
yeah, it's fun busting his chops but he is learning by doing. German Food! I am starting to OD on Bratwurst and Snitzel but not the killer beer. The Glüewine is awesome with rum. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-9/69 build date-stock w/133k 1600 SP-barn find now with a rebuilt tranny and engine

Taking the 5 down or the 101?
If you take the 101 either direction, though your more likely to do so on your return trek north - let me know. Maybe we can setup some brewery tours or hit up a nice section of road with the busses and just cruise for shits and giggles. |

When it was my Bus I had an inflatable queen size mattress for it. Fit quite nice with the rear bench folded down. PO had an extender for the front built out of wood; an "L" shaped frame with plywood on top. I bet if you unbolted the middle bench and laid it on it's back it would make that same "L" shape...
Get a mattress that comes with the electric inflator that plugs into the cig outlet.

I know Bleyseng was just breaking balls here but I would like to share some Stu highlights as well.
One time I called him and he was in route to save some chicks bus broken down in Seattle canceling some plans he already had. Gotta her up and going again.
Then one time we were on our way camping and he pulls over to help a stranded Syncro owner who's van was smoking really bad. Happened to be Kwilk from the van forum that we met earlier in the year when he picked up fridge unit in PDX to bring back to Seattle for a dude he barely new on the van forum. Diagnosed the problem wasn't really a problem cleaned up some stuff and Van was back in action. No more smoke.
Same weekend we were coming home the camp out and my Alt light started intermittently illuminating along the way. He whips out his Fluke meter and diagnosis the relay isn't doing its job. Puts in a spare OEM one he has in his box of spare parts on my bus. Still on to this day.
Another time I can't maintain idle. He rolls up to my house in PDX around midnight whips off the carb, cleans it up and it's good to go. That same weekend while Xatie and I are out running errands I come back to him dorking around with the Bn4 heater. He gets it running more consistent then ever. Same day I was putting in new H4s into my bus. Tabs were rusty and bent and screws were breaking. He fixed it.
Then one time I paid him to replace the light assembly on my wife's modern Acura. What a PITA. But he knew how all the funky bits, bumper, and panels that's needed to be dissembled to get it in.
One time my neighbor paid him to put new Rancho shocks with coil overs on. Pretty sure he's never worked on a 2015 Chevy truck before. But he figured it out.
Stuart may not have Colin's ACVW knowledge (not many do) but the boy knows a shit ton, is like a sponge when learning things and has a great attitude. He's a goof for sure but he has a huge heart. We couldn't be more opposite but that's why I like him.
Midnight carb clean

Hey, what's going on in this thread?
Actually Stu told me he decided to make a winter season southbound attempt at the WA backcountry route.
He said he just needed somebody else's bus to try it with this time.
I don't even know what that means. _________________ '71 Westy w/ a 1776 singleport, 34P3 & 205Q. Points.

When you drive out into nowhere in the middle winter its always good to bring a backup food source. _________________

I've never found it anymore difficult to work on a 72 vs any other year bus. If the engine needs to come out...it will need to come out regardless of the year. Haven said that...a 72 is simpler to work on with a set of IDF's/Dells vs the stock setup with engine in situation but still no nightmare.
Hell...if I'd had just planned my trip a little later. I just returned from southern Ca. (not in my bus this time). Left on X-mas day and returned yesterday in my 28ft Fleetwood. _________________ 1972 Westy Hardtop/Type-4 2056cc
