Hey what's the deal? I'm finding the early style oil pumps for the cases with small 6mm studs to be NLA. I've had a couple people say to put step studs in the case backwards and use the 8mm style oil pump, is that the best we can do now with what's available? Parts that used to be as common as a 72 super beetle are beginning to dry up, this sucks!

You can use the up to 70 model pump if your keeping the flat cam the gears on some later "HD" pumps may be bigger and the oil holes a bit bigger but I have used the later pumps in "F" cases and ealier 40 hp cases...

Hey Keifernet I'm building a 62 40hp motor and it seems the oil pump studs are too short. I've double checked the clearance between cover and gears and they're in spec. The pump body is seated in case and gear engages cam. However, I don't have enough thread on studs to torque cover down. I'm using original cam and the same oil pump that was in the motor. Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the short ones, then run to the hardware store and get some longer bolts/studs.

Is there anything special about removing studs? Are they pressed in or screwed in. Do you heat case? ect....

just lock two nuts against each other on the stud, and unscrew the stud from the case.
