Why not just find a OG 36hp shroud. Mine is working very good.

Dan do you run an oil cooler in the shroud? I didnt know an actual 36hp shroud would fit on a 1600 type

Yes it will fit. The cooler is in place but has no oil in it. It has a external cooler with a oil stat on it.

if you aren't running oil through it, why leave it in place? block off plates are cheap..

I thought it was used to help direct the air in a non doghouse shroud

if it's a dogystyle shroud you put the cooler outside in the doghouse it wont fit inside.

yep, got it Mark... Dan had mentioned to use a stock VW 36 shroud. Since that had a cooler in the shroud stock, I wasnt sure if you could run one without it in there and not mess up the cooling.

Yes needs to be there for correct airflow. If removed the cylinders get more air and heads get less (not good). With hot oil in it the air get heated before it is used to cool the heads/cylinders also not ideal. I also as you can see I gutted the cooler but the screen is there, the cooler had balooned so I cut away the tubes.

dog house shroud in the thread title......you cant put the non dogystyle cooler in the dogystyle shroud. but if you add the "doghouse" to the non dogystyle shroud yes you need to do some finnage work. .....but why? just use a shroud made to do so. I personaly dont see that choped up mess of a old cooler doing anything execpt for another mess of things..or if not using the inside or dog cooler just use the dogystyle shroud and block it off so it dose flow air where the cooler was in the doghouse. shrouds are cheep engines are not. ...or add fins to the non dogyshroud to be like the dogy shroud. not that hard but not that eazy either. a old dogystyle shropud could be used to either get the peices out of or...remove the rear portion of both&transfer it.(some good working skills needed to do this right. Wink )

Yes the motor is now running in my 356 but only temporarly until I can assess the performance of the beehive valve springs, then the 1904cc 356 engine will go back in the car to prep it for sale.

So far I have taken it to 6500 with no signs of float and soon I will take it to 7100 after I do some more fine tuning.
