73 Westy, new paint. During assembly the drivers side rear window, with vent, did not go in properly. The rubber seal on the vent is not mounted on the vent frame properly. It probably came off during install of the main window and I didn't catch the mistake until the large window was installed.
Naturally I don't want to ruin new rubber seals...so how can I remove the large window? I've read about putty knife prying the seal up over the ridge and brute force with feet. Any other methods? _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"

Start at one of the front corners and push out gently. Find where the seal wants to "give out" over the lip, and continue with firm but smooth pressure out along the glass. If it was recently installed, the seal should be supple enough to just glide out. I like to have a helper on the other side to catch it, or a nice sized suction cup on my inside to hold it from falling.
If the seal is old and persnickety, use a plastic spudger of some kind to break it's grip on the glass every few centimeters down the frame, then try the above method.
Yes, it really does just push out.

success! I caught the edge of the rubber by prying out the window at the vent. It came out as easy as putting it in. Now research how to install the vent window right...there is only one lip on the opening but there is a groove on the inside of the rubber and the outside as well as the channel in the middle _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"

good luck! the vent window and larger window with new (probably junk) seals were the hardest ones on my bus to get right. Vent still closes very difficult against the new seal, I just gave up, and don't open it. |

the rubber seal on the top repeatedly twists off while pulling the vent inwards leaving a loose floppy upper seal on the outside.I'm waiting for the rubber cement to dry...perseverance! _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"

if you used the available aftermarket side (square vent window) seals they truly are a joke.
