It's home! So happy to have one of the ~2,200 '65's.

A little crust here & there, but frame is good & it's pretty complete.
It'll be a little while before I can give it my full attention, but my plans are to:
See what OG paint there is (aiming for not full re-paint)
Replace metal where needed & blend
Mechanical refresh
Hopefully find a pop-top roof rack & tent pieces.

There's some tent stuff... not all matching though.
Time to get it off the trailer & cleaned out!

Couple oddities:
No engine number & underside/engine bay is SWR.... coded as Pearl White.

M-plate says 12v... I'd be happy if true.

So which tent did the bus end up having? It is M-coded for a tent but has a big-top style tent rail plus early tent mounts on the roof?

Good score on this bus, i knew it wouldn't last long at all!! Very Happy

Thx guys!

Here's what I ended up with, in the tent department...
Poles were not in the bus, canvas was... so not sure what I have exactly.
Will try to sort out the poles this weekend & take better pics.

Selling that PGSG pressed bumper that is on the bus should help offset your purchase price. Nice score!

Great save! I can't wait to see it emptied but not cleaned out. Take shots of the neat finds like a jalousie handle here, pristine cabinet handle there, etc. Cool
I love my '65 SO-42:

Looks like you might have some galvanized poles; possible there is both a privy and foyer tent set since you have both sets of mounts.

Wierd m-code 100, front emblem delete.

just noticed that your bus appears to have the roof brackets for early westfalia tents and the later roof gutter aluminum bar for later westfalia add-a-room type tents- wonder what is up with that

Ya, kinda odd... maybe it was right at the transition to big top?
I need to read the Westy tent thread. I wonder what "Picked up by first owner at the factory in Germany for US market" was. If that was tourist delivery... and maybe the owner said "oh, hell no... I want the striped tent."... and they gave him what he wanted.

Side note... it has a kinda crusty rust spot in a weird place... a few inches below the windshield. A few mins ago, one of Randy's friends called me & said Randy told him it had been 'front clipped'. I'm sure I'll find out for sure as I go along... but it would explain the weird rusty spot.

He also told me this was Randy's favorite bus. His son told me it was the first bus at the yard & had been there the longest.

You could still purchase the early style tent at Westafalia up to 67 so its entirely possible they did this since it was picked up in Germany.

A quickie about your red engine bay- then on to the M-code plate...
I think it's a repaint in there- your license light assembly is painted as well.

I'll bet a donut the last code is really a '108'- meaning it was prepped without a solid/popout order for windows before Westfalia got there Jalousies out. Mine has the same code.
Now I need to consult my plate- to see how close our rigs are.

Nice score Easy. I remember talking to Randy about this Bus years ago. I asked him why it had an early bumper? I vaguely remember him saying he installed it to throw people off. Pretty neat Bus i'm biased to pearl white myself.
