Greetings, I'm thinking on buying a 55 beetle Ultra Maroon that has a red leatherette interior...that looks very much like the original factory material. Looking at all the paint upholstery charts I don't see that combination. Does anybody in the great Volkswagen community know if this combo existed? This is a very original car with original factory paint. Thanks in advance for any info! |

My 54 was an Ultramaroon car with red leatherette interior. But it had black piping on the seats and door cards. The birth certificate backed that up, with a M code 918. But I do not place too much faith on the words written on that paper.
Finally had time to find the pictures of the door cards and rear seat back. I got it with no front seats and no rear bottom seat.

example from the samba gallery
a couple of other samba members have ultramaroon/red interiors, so it's rare but not unheard of _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Although very nice, colour combinations on Karmann cars have nothing to do with Sedans made by Volkswagen themselfs.
As to what could be the second dial, most possibly a fuel gauge... or some other gauge because this "expensive" Volkswagen has an Express Engine at the back! |

Its a clock, look at the second picture in my 1956 brochure at the bottom. My 56 has the hole but i do not have the correct clock.

my friends vert came with a vdo clock 80mm mounted to the left of the speedometer. The birth certificate showed M922 (Illuminable clock in instrument panel - Convertible ONLY. Discontinued 1st January 1961.) It has a similar face to my Perohaus clock, however the back housing and shape is different...looks like this one:
