That was considered.
This particular heater required a weather proof installation, so instead of fabricating a box for underneath, this location was chosen.
Plus, this being fueled by diesel requires an occasional refill of the the tank, so it was located just inside the right side treasure chest door for easy access.

Since Larry is fortunate enough to own a dual door SC, he has the entire left side for storage.

Larry's speedo had bad glass and a bad chrome ring, so I dug in my stash and parted out a Beetle speedo I had.
Also, changed out the idiot light gels.

His bus speedo looks pretty good now.

Larry wanted a few accessories added for convenience.
Instead of butchering his virgin dashboard, I made a couple brackets to mount them.

In order to convert to 12V the armature has to be swapped out. This is a replacement from Wolfsburg West.

Thanks Larry...I'm gonna miss it once it finally goes home with you, but hopefully you'll bring it out to our car shows to visit.

Almost done with the dash...final install on the radio and powered hidden antenna today.

Borrowed an idea from Bullibill (Bill Bowman) and added a black mesh cloth behind the louvers around the radio. It gives it a nice finished look and hides the wiring and such that can be seen through there.

Let there be light!

Rebuilt the headlight assemblies...blasted, painted, new bulbs and rubber.

Although the WW replacement trim rings were high quality, they weren't specific for right and left. Busses have drain holes in the trim rings since they sit sideways. Simply drilled them out.

Larry wanted emergency lights added to his truck. I wired in a 63 era switch and custom relays with the new harness.

Can you see if a magnet sticks? What did you use to build up the rest of the assemblies?

Magnet sticks...they are triple chrome plated steel according to WW. Wolfy West is actually closed due to the shutdown, so I sourced them from a distributor of theirs in Oklahoma called the Bug Haus.
As far as the build up, I bead blasted all the inner metal, primed and painted with as close to the light gray VW used, replaced the bulbs with 12V stuff and installed new seals on the glass.

Those innards look brand new. Expect rust on the outer rings or keep them heavily waxed.
