I am!
Some notes on the camping this year at Winter Island Marine park in Salem:
Website for campground.
http://www.salemweb.com/winterisland/
Web page for campground map.
http://www.salemweb.com/winterisland/?f=3
Check in time is 1pm, or later, on all sites. Camp office closes at 4pm. Check in with Stan in the Igloo area when you arrive, NOT the office.
Most of us will be in the Igloo group area. A few buses will relocate to the overflow area for sat. night. There is no electric or water on any of the sites. We do have a community fire pit in the Igloo area, which is the ONLY place a campfire is allowed in the whole park. Raccoons can be very crafty at getting to your food and inside coolers in the Igloo area. Do not leave any food or trash out that would attract the raccoons.
The overflow area is near the Igloo area and bathrooms, in the old Ft. Pickering. We will have 10 or so VWs in this area for Sat. night only. Please see Stan, or text me when you arrive and I'll help you park in this area.
We will also have a 2 buses on a site near the entrance to the park (#40), and 3 buses on a site across from the playground (#56). Next year I will try to reserve more of these extra spaces.
Winter Island park is located on the water, so bring warm clothes. The park is an old military facility with fortified walls, ocean-side walking paths, a huge hanger that housed seaplanes during WWII, boat ramp, harbormaster HQ, and a pier. Non-camping vehicle parking is near the pier and camp office.
There is a regular shuttle bus that stops at the park and goes to downtown Salem. It is also an easy bike ride to downtown Salem. We sometimes get breakfast in downtown Beverly, which is just north of Salem and an easy to drive from the campground. The park has clean and warm bathrooms/showers. The camp store has very limited supplies, but be sure to check out the historical photos of the park they have hanging on the walls.
If you are coming in on Friday or Saturday evening, consider coming through Beverly on route 62 and route 1a south to Winter Island park. This will avoid the congestion of downtown Salem, which can be frustrating after a long drive in an old VW.
When you arrive at the campground, mention the VW bus group at the gate. The Igloo area is on your left after you enter, before you get to the parking lot and pier area. We will have a Transporterfest sign hanging at the entrance to the Igloo area to help you find it.
If you are not camping in the Igloo area (see camping list on page 1 of this thread), then please park in the parking lot/pier area when you first arrive. Text Stan, or find me in the Igloo area to pay for your camping spot (cash only) and I will direct you to your spot. _________________ Stan's Classic Service, specializing in air-cooled VWs:

Beyond crafty I'd say. I think they were wearing colors and flashing gang signs to each other last year - not sure, could have been the beer.
I was hoping to have my van together for this trip, but a week a rain during my time off to put it together, along with loosing my storage space has thwarted that. On the positive side, the van is now home, which I should have done in the spring. The real upside is I will again bring firewood in the pick-up.
I'll have (treatment free) honey for sale - if anyone is interested, I can bring some.
Also, any interest in a Vanagon middle seat - brown-cheap?
Got some front buckets as well and a Vanagon heater assembly (1983) for sale as well. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

Thanks to Ken Mitchell for helping to sort out a bit of a cleaner exit from Salem.
Like last year, the group caravan will depart Winter Island at 8 am. Campers please be ready!
Our navigation through Salem proper will remain the same down Fort Ave, to Essex and Bridge however the new route will streamline our merge onto the highway.
I will have printed directions that I will give out Sunday morning.
If any other bus pilots have CB radios please have it service ready, a channel will be selected before departure.
Also, we have a new app at work to help with "processions" and I'll have it turned on for the caravan! You'll be able to track my turn by turn trip through the app "FuneralNav" feel free to download it and come Sunday morning you'll be able to get turn by turn directions!
Looking forward to Salem!
See you all there! _________________ Mike

This is going to be an awesome weekend, with RECORD numbers of buses coming into Salem!
Please remember that traffic in and around the Witch City is high this time of year. Plan for some congestion, the later you come the more traffic you should plan to encounter.
Also, because there are so many buses this year, and as always the effort to keep as many folks in the Igloo it should be remembered that there really is no room for awnings, side tents, and big camp set ups. Please be courteous so we can fit as many people and we can have a good time. Plan to be parked close to your neighbors.
The caravan from Winter Island will again be leaving at 8:00 am on Sunday. If you are not planning to caravan please let Stan know when you check in so we can avoid you blocking anyone in.
This is the (revised) route for 2016 - thanks to Ken for his help!
I built in stops to keep us together, and ask that drivers please effort to stay near (as is safe) to the bus in front of you. If you are a slow driver, keep to the rear - we don't want to loose everyone behind you!
Here are the directions:
http://dasvolks.com/forms/TransporterfestDirections.pdf
Feel free to download the FuneralNav App so you can track me turn-by-turn the morning of the big ride.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
I'll be up in Salem Wednesday evening and know it is going to be another great year! _________________ Mike

Note, I have a fair amount of firewood, but it's all pretty wet after the solid week of rain. If anyone has anything dry, please bring it.
I took down a standing 8"-10" dead pine today, since I find standing dead wood drier than that lying on the ground. I have that that covered.
Wed & Thurs are predicted to be sunny, maybe I'll add a later to the truck bed each day to dry out. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

John, according to weather.com even the other days look like they're improving to 20/30% rain. That's still favorable odds. Are you seeing something otherwise? _________________ Mike

No I'm talking about the past- my wood is all soaked from it raining every day and/or night for the past 9 days here..after weeks of drought. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

Anyone have one lying around that's going to show?

Hope the rain holds of on Sunday. 30% chance of nothing happening at all so far. I'm hoping for fair weather on sunday and this hurricane fizzles out. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.
