So my 1966 bus has been in storage for 3 years. Today I drove her to work in a nice Washington mist. When I turned on my wipers, voltage dropped to 12v for fast and 11 for slow, and the Alternator light came on (yes I have an alternator). I was smelling hot electrical so I didn't run the wipers. When I got to work I peeked my head under the dash and the 16a fuse was glowing and melting, not blowing.
I have not had any other electrical issues with my bus either befor or after storage. I've got about 300 miles since pulling her out of the storage unit. What are some things I should investigate.
It seems like an excessive current draw is causing this, but so far I haven't found any damaged wires.
Thanks for any help

First, try disconnecting the wiper arms from the motor. Test how stiff the wiper shafts have become. I'd also test how hot does the switch get. If the wipers move without a problem, then a motor test is in order, possibly disassembly and cleaning. Possibly the output shaft is binding.
Wait, go back, 12 volt? Is it a 6 volt motor? _________________ '72 Elm Green Deluxe |

Thanks for the ideas.
It's a converted 12v with the new armature. I'll play with it tomorrow and post what I find! |
