Ok barely got the pickup running again and runs well. At idle the temperature is on the middle of the gauge but however when driving it at highway speed the needle would move 2 bars past the normal temperature bring it close to red mark. What do I do to fix this? Bad radiator? fan? Oh also this is a diesel.

If you look closely at the gauge, there is a little white dot at about 3/4-7/8, this is where they usually stay & where the fan will start up, if this is where the needle stays, this is normal

first check the fan starting temperature when the engine is on idle.
if it was ok, then remove the coolant reservoir tank cap and rise the rpm and check if does it make bobbles or not.
then rise the rpm again and check the coolant hose from engine to radiator by press it to make sure its still soft and its not stone.
if the engine run overheat in highway it could be from head gasket. so bobbles or stone hose shows the compress comes to the radiator.
check the engine oil and coolant color to make sure its not mixed with oil or coolant.
