I decided to start compiling all my pics of this '58 here. It hasn't been my top priority in the last 4 years or so that i've owned it, but slowly but surely the car is coming together. Still alot of work ahead!
Here is the as found pics
Then after it was pulled from it's grave (had to install a front beam first)
Stripped the paint down & made it a ratty, runner, driver for a while
She sat for a while, and i decided to start taking it apart. The hopes of saving any OG paint or, patina was out the window as it was just too far gone. My dad made some lower door pillars & did some welding here & there
Had to go buy a truckload of replacement parts, cause the hood doors & decklid were pretty toasted. I was stoked to finally find a good solid 4 tab hood. Then sent it out to the body man.
Now here is how she sits. I am fixing up a car for a guy that is doing the body work & paint. I'm wondering what others have used to match the Diamond grey as closely as possible. He is almost ready to paint the car.
Now i better get to work on the chassis........ |

Glasurit has the code L243 and can be mixed anywhere BASF, Glasurit, R+M is found.
L243 is a beautiful color with not a whole lot of references found online. Slightly metallic so base coat, clear coat is probably a good choice.
Nice work, keep it up! _________________ -Ryan

hey thanks OLDveedubs. I had some paint mixed up, and it looks really nice to me. The car will be painted within the next couple weeks. Here is a test spray on a can compared to my original radio block-off plate

Hey thanks, this is my first VW that i've ever had painted. I usually don't go after cars that don't have some savable OG paint. At some point i had to do something with it though because i can't stand seeing these cars sit out in the woods rotting away. |

ok, i'm getting ready to order up some floor pans for the Canadian. What is the consensus on the brands available? I want to have the clamps & wingnuts holding the seats down, so no seat track is needed. The titled chassis i have is a '56. |

other projects are always taking time away from me, but i had a chance to start cleaning up the chassis,
and drill some broken bolts out. I have some crappy floor pans that i might use to patch in here & there. Then after it's solid i'll have it all sandblasted & painted.

I've been scraping, sanding, and cleaning this crusty old '62 beam the last few days after work.
Here it is after i painted it. It's just rattle can paint.
I was surprised at how nice the caps & spindles were for how crusty this beam was too.

My dad has been patching some pan sections for me, and i had a bunch of brake drums & backing plates sandblasted. The '56 chassis is almost ready to roll. I think i'll get all the brakes done before i drop the body on.
These are the rear brake drums that came on the splitcase trans my friend gave me
