I've never done a thread on a bus so here it goes...

Heard about this one via the grapevine back in December and felt it worth my time.

A 67' sea blue standard. The PO had purchased it about a year or so ago as a running/driving original paint bus but stripped all the paint off it, took all the parts off it ( including running gear ) and put it inside the bus. He then proceeded to leave it outside and overdose and die Sad. His name was Pedro, so I call it Pedro's bus.
Built the same day (Jan 2 67' ) as my so42 ( 20 serial numbers apart ). This was the unseasonably warm December day I went to get it..

Installing the front end..

Fortunately, all the hardware was to be found inside the bus.. I think a VW bus is one of the only vehicles that you can take ALL the parts off of and put them inside the vehicle.

Rolls nice, comes with most parts which are (mostly) useable.

Took it home and mechanically removed the surface rust and put rust mort on it.

Installed some missing sheet metal:

Now its this :

Which some of you might recognize from Crukab's threads Smile

Next step is to sand blast some areas and epoxy prime it.

Shocked
I thought (hoped) people had quit doing that sort of thing.
Props to you for taking on the project!

the underside has been painted with masterseries .

Glad to see the project moving along! Also happy to see the rotiss in use rather than sitting.
Very thankful to have it passed on to me and be able to help others out with it's use.
After all Tom and his Dad did all the work making it Bus friendly!

Glad to help out! I love the progress, and the story behind the project. every time one is brought back it keeps other's inspired to hunt them down and keep them on the road! It is nice to connect with people with a similar vice.

Keep up the good work!

the last major rust repair is well underway, both sides lower doglegs and front floor as well as the bottom A pillar are in. Finishing up the nose is next. Then some general cleanup and touch up on all the welded areas and another coat of epoxy primer.

nose is almost done, ran out of welding gas.

All metal work is almost done!

Stay tuned for primer, the plan is to put another coat of epoxy, followed by build primer coat.
One downside to the epoxy is that once it dries, re coating it will be a pain as it doesn't sand well.
