And did you already know about this Swedish "Orient Expressen" Bus?

I found this black/white picture in swedish vw forum "Boxerville" years ago.

And today somebody posted these 3 photos of the very same bus in an english group on facebook. He said he found them in an old swedish magazine.

It was the fastest bus in the Alps.. although the gear box broke twice a year and so it had to be repaired very often Laughing

Ice-cool shot

Looks to be an original sunroof bus as you can see the skylight inner pressings
Makes you wonder why they didnt use the forward skylight pressing using a VW window as opposed to those unusually shaped ones

Wheels pinstripes

sounds like an excellent idea, really short gears and not much heavier than a porsche 356

Take a look at the additional window - left above the boys head.
Kohlruss or Schreiner? Think
Too bad that the reflection on the right side hides the side window of the other side..

Caption says "Proud driver" - totally relatable if you ask me! Very Happy

Non-deluxe sunroof buses only had the three roof window reinforcement stampings behind the B pillars on each side. This was to strengthen the roof around the sunroof perimeter. Not necessary for the front section.

Not sure if it has front roof windows at all. the pssgr side doesn't have one, so I assume it's just a reflection in an accessory sunvisor. roof windows are coachbuilt though with a polished aluminium frame.

it has a ski rack on top. these were basically very thick rubber bands, expanded and tied to the drip rails. I have a pair of these ( don't know where though... Laughing )
it's funny because the boy seems to be wearing a summer shirt.

Hmm.. Think I took another, closer look at the photo and I still think it is a window above the passenger sides front. In my opinion the perspective is a bit confusing and the other window that we see is already the piano hinge of the co-drivers side.
Another thought that i have is, that if you take a closer look at the awning in the background you can also spot it through this little roof window that we are discussing about. Going out from the left side of the awning, the 3rd vertical grey line - you have to imagine how it would extend if the bus wasn't there.. And i believe that i makes a slight bow and you can see it through the window. But maybe that's just what i want to see and i am wrong.

You're right! Maybe it was already close to the end of the season as the awning in the background is rolled out and there is now snow seen in this picture detail. Tough little boy! Cool

That's true. I mistook the front vent window for the pssgr screen. Now that you both pointed out, it's clearly visible that it has front skylites.
The boy is posing Austrian Surfer style. with a ski rack on top ! Laughing

Looking at the store front I am about to cry. chrome posts, rounded corner glass, clean lettering - all pure 1950s -brilliant!
these are fading rapidly over here. With all those ancient many centuries old buildings around in Austria nobody seems to really care for mid century (ie 1950s) architecture at all it seems.

Tough little boy? Maybe they have an Eberspacher running? Laughing

Very cool to see these odd coachbuilts. Do we know if window additions were glass or plexiglass? What was the common source in the 50's?

on the Kohlruss they were both hardened glass ( flat glass) and perspex (plexiglass) for shaped or crowned windows.
