On the vans with factory swivels, once you collapse the driver seat flat, can it be spun 180 degrees and reopened facing backwards?
This has always bugged me that you are unable to spin the factory driver seat 180 degrees.... |

IDK, I have a full camper but I can turn it 90° if I have it at the one spot where the seat back fits between the steering wheel and the window.
On my 84 without power steering, I can't get the driver's seat down without moving the adapters back or pushing harder than I think I should. I haven't figured out why I might want to do this though.

| I think that cap on the pivot might reveal something, but mine have gotten easier to move since I did them. |

Mine were tight too, i shot some silicone lube into the joint and they have been fine ever since. I think they loosen over time as well |

Ok, "fixed" the arm rests this morning.
Pry out the bolt cap, I used two small screw drivers and "walked" it out....
A 13 mm (1/2") bolt holds the arm rest onto the pivot......
Remove the bolt a few turns and pull/wiggle the armrest loose. Some were quite stuck and if you remove the bolt completely, when it finally comes..... you may go tumbling back with it!
Once loose, remove the bolt and armrest.
There is a plastic keyed shaft, the armrest will only go on one way.
Slip the arm rest back on and pivot it up, be careful, without the bolt tight there is no up stop and you could over pivot the cam into the seat!
Once it is pivoted up, remove the armrest and you will see four pivot grooves.
I soaked each groove with silicone spray, put the armrest back on loosely and pivoted the rest up and down rapidly and it loosened considerably!
Tighten up the bolt, put the cap back on...... DONE!!
My doors were frozen shut this morning so while the silicone was out I lubed up my door seals.

| Pretty much what I suggested in my post right above. Except I saved an hour of labor by not removing the armrest. You can shoot the silicone spray lube in the joint with arm rest in place and work it up and down. Loosened it right up. Been fine for over a year now. Mine are leather so any over spray was an easy wipe up for cleaning. |

Since my EV got smashed up I've been driving a rental 2017 Grand Caravan with what I think are these seats. What are the long term assessments of these, 'cause I don't find the front seats to be very comfortable and my kids don't like those second row versions, either.

For me the jury is still out, I had the old seats without armrest and these are definitely an improvement in sitting comfort, but if I could get my hands on some stock seats with armrests, I think I would prefer them. The front of the seat sits higher and therefore I have less room between my larger steering wheel and the seat.
The strangest part for me, is that with my old seat I was so connected to the van that any noise or vibration or clunking, I could feel it and so I felt more connected to the vehicle, with these seats there's some disconnect which is probably a good thing, but it's sort of takes away my ability to feel what's going on with the van.
Part of my dissatisfaction with them is that they just aren't stock seats. But they are comfortable enough, they're just not I deal with my setup. The fabric is way more comfortable on your skin than the old stuff I had. |

Real life use report from my Wife and I.......
We just may be the top users of these seats, if not "the" then certainly in the top ten!!
27 days, 7,955 miles from NJ to Crescent City Ca and back.....
A ride we've done before in the stock VW seats with each day ending up with us wiggling and squirming with an aching Butt......
This trip it took us until we were approaching Columbus Ohio, about 7,500 miles of sitting, to look at each other and exclaim "I'm tired of sitting in this seat!"
But alas, a good nights sleep and all was fine the next day!
Let's see ...... 8,000 miles averaging 50mph (which we did NOT) would be 160 hours of sitting at an average of 40 mph (maybe) 200 hours......

Southbound, too, even when there hasn't been a storm.
For decades, we made the trek from Western PA to Virginia Beach. We learned early on to avoid I-95 and stick to the backwaters of MD and VA.
One Sunday morning, I missed a turn off and found myself pointed directly at DC. I told my family not to worry, we would pick up I-95 S in the southwest corner of DC and soon we would be back to our normal route. I said the the same thing over and over again as we sat in traffic on I-95 20, 30, even 40 miles from DC.
Traveling on I-95 is demeaning - avoid it.

I used to have to drive up there weekly on business many years ago and I was stuck in traffic on U.S. 1 while trying to avoid the interstate and the car in front of me had the Virginia vanity plate I H8 I95. Could not have agreed more.
