Are there any years that have a gray leather option for the T&C seats (that will fit the Vanagon)? It looks like it may be only black leather/cloth and gray cloth. |
Yes, gray leather is available:
Since you're in AZ, you might contact this eBay seller in Scottsdale who has sold a boatload of these T&C seats:

I drove a black Jetta with black leather seats around AZ for 17 years... never, ever again! _________________ ~Kamz

Thanks. It's not the right time for me in terms of expense but I've been keeping updated on the seat conversions to see what's available out there. Gray leather would definitely work for me. I've seen the ads from that same person in the local CL.
I currently have Eurovan seats. They are better than the original ones but pretty hard and I'm not sure I'd want to actually get on the road for longer drives with them. They don't look that great either. |

Don't know if I missed it, but does anyone have the wiring details for hooking up the heaters in the seats? |
Sadly not possible without an expensive mopar relay setup. Few of us have tried and have not been successful. I got mine to *work* using the stock relay setup from a canadian vanagon. The seats would get hot and then hotter and then stay really effing hot no matter what the setting was on. Very dangerous as it could ultimatley burn through. I think I remember measuring the temp with an ir gun at like 128 degrees or so. So long story short i yanked the TC setup and installed an aftermarket set of seat heaters from amazon. Used it all last winter and it was great. The install was pretty straight forward and only took about an hour per seat. |
So I'm wondering... If you purchase an aftermarket seat heater kit, why couldn't you just use the after market relay/controller portion of the kit and connect to the built-in seat heaters on the Stow-n-go seats (if already installed). Wouldn't that work? |

I had a request for the pictures I posted earlier in this thread (which no longer work).
As my post is too old to edit, here they are. . . including my last comment from the earlier post.
"Sorry I don't have better photos but here is what I do have>
I used some low profile strut found in Home Depot electrical dept. It has slots in it which happened to line up with the seats if I recall. I made large square washers that fit in the rail to spread the load. "
Hope this helps.

So this is 'the' kit to buy right? I'll still be able to swivel both my westfalia seats around?
The only functionality I lose is the ability to slide front to back?
Edit: It appears to me that the SmallCars bracket doesn't slide and this german bracket does slide. Both will give swivel ability? _________________ Brandon

This is the money post. Dave, did you modify the driver's side factory slider (on the body/van) with two notches or just the passenger? I placed my order yesterday for my german sliders.

I remembered to bring my drill home and drilled new holes in the German Bracket......
I used the rear studs but had to drill new holes in the Chrysler seat slides for the front mount bolt, no biggie, factory used a bolt in the front....
German adjustable Sliders Mounted to the Chrysler sliders......
Once the German sliders were mounted it was a simple task of sliding the seats on, just like the OE seats do.......
I modified my seat tracks on the Van body to allow two more locking positions sliding back, this allows an addional 1 1/4" of rear slide movement, a significant distance actually when added to the Chrysler slider movement......
New locking tab locations marked and surrounding items protected from sparks, I used my Angle Grinder with a narrow blade and just cut them out, easy really, touched them up with a file when finished.......
Seat with both adjusters fully back......

I really need to get around to doing this. I've had the seats and German brackets in my garage for nearly a year now. |

I have the Small Car brackets with my T&C seats. The brackets don't have their own sliders, but the seats do. I'm not sure why you would need two different sets of sliders on your seat? I'm 6'2", so our driver's seat only gets slid forward when my wife drives, or I need access to the house battery. Both seats still swivel fine with the Small Car brackets installed, and the amount of travel with the seat sliders is plenty for us. The passenger seat when rotated around has lots of travel front and back on the T&C sliders. _________________ 1990 Westfalia Vanagon

I really didn't think about having two sliders - but I looked into it and the Small Cars brackets are $234.30 shipped vs $230 shipped from germany. I'm in no rush to get these in as I am two weekends worth of work to do before these.
Hey $4.30 is a 4 for $4 meal at Wendys! _________________ Brandon

I installed mine this weekend. Passenger seat rocks. Driver side with the big manual steering wheel is not good. I've got some huge thunder thighs. It's honestly hard for me to exit the van. I might try adjusting it again but I think I'll be sitting at 90degree angle. _________________ Brandon

I feel like I'm on the last tab of the factory sliding/swivel. Dave didn't you say you undid the tab at the end to allow the German track to extend out of the factory tracks? I feel like I have like 2.5" left. OP looks like he is flush against the kitchen.
