Wagner Blechteile in Germany does them too (in two versions - short and tall) and he posts internationally, as long as you are prepared to correspond by email in German via Google Translate like I did - see http://www.wagner-blechteile.de/produkte.html# _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

Hi Mellow Yellow
I have been looking at this site for a while - do you have any feedback on the quality of the panels from Wagner - what panels did you buy ?
Cheers. _________________ -------------------

I bought early style heater channels and rocker panels for my 62, a tall front fender panel with the badge recess and skin repair panels for the engine lid and a door.
I have started working on the door and engine lid and the skin repair panels needed a fair amount of rework (see http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=602129). I guess any repro panel or hand made panel is going to need some rework to make them fit properly.
I haven't installed the other parts - they look good but it is hard to tell until you try and fit them. But Juergen is obviously a very skilled old school panel beater and in general I would say they are good quality.
Juergen's shipping costs to Australia were high so I had him deliver to a parcel forwarder in Germany called mailboxde.com and they worked out much cheaper. _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

Thanks. It was a surprise to see how much the color changes depending on the lighting. It actually looks almost gold from one angle. I have never seen another diamond grey ghia, in person, to compare it with. Guess that's why they called it "diamond grey". It can look matt grey and then sparkle like a diamond. |

Don't want to sound weird but this is pretty much ghia porn.
So jealous of that color. _________________ '74 Ghia Vert SOLD |

Hi all, I have a 1958 Ghia I'm restoring. The metal surrounding the headlights on both sides is rusted and I need to find someone that makes/sells these for a lowlight Ghia. Any suggestions out there? I checked with Danny Gabbard and he no longer makes these custom. Is there another resource out there?
Thanks!

Hi Marianne, I have a set of headlight skins but not sure if they will fit a low light, see pic
If anyone here can tell if they would work on a low light let us know and I'll PM Marianne.

Tall Bloke, I just sent an email to SAM, the Repuestossam.com link. Thank you!
This surrounds look like a soft transition and are labeled pre '59, looks like the ones!
I'll post pics of the progress I'm making! My son is 24 and is excited to help me out on the restoration... it's a family restoration job _________________ The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. Eleanor Roosevelt |

RBSurfGuy, thank you! But I think those may be for a later year. The 59's and earlier have some slightly different curves to them.
I appreciate your help tho!
Cheers,

Right now we're working on the chassis, replacing floor pans. I'm cleaning the transmission and in charge of hunting down and ordering parts . I know my way around interior work, but metal and mechanical work will be something I hope to learn on this project!
Here are a couple photos of my Ghia in Alaska!
cheers!
