I know this has been covered in other threads and some good info on Ratwell site. What I'm hoping to do is put together one comprehensive thread from beginning to end. I will do my best.
http://www.ratwell.com/technical/Injectors.html
Tritessa, Stuartzickfoose, and some others are going to help me along the way. Tritessa did this to his 1973 years ago. I would like input from the rest of the Samba folks for any tips, parts, and things to consider.
Currently I'm running a single Weber progressive. The bus is a 1972 with a 1976 GD engine solid lifters, 091 trans. In the engine compartment I have a Bn4 gas heater.
Looking for everything I need to have ready for install day. I know bits and pieces of this process are in many threads. Links to some of the better threads would be great too.
Found a complete (fuel pump ,double relay, etc included) from an air cooled Vanagon FI set up still in a running van for the price of ICTs. The guy is a mechanic and machinist that owns a shop that also machines VW heads. He knows what I'm doing and all the bits I will need. He has it all except air filter bracket suitable for a bus. I should be able to find a donor bracket to weld in. He did mention a K&N cone style air filter would work instead of Original.
Here are some tidbits from Tritessa. He also found this setup locally for me within minutes of me telling him my FI Plans. Thanks buddy.
Picture of what I'm picking up. Still on van.
Preparing for install:
Fuel tank return- late bay fuel tank, fuel sender and 72 fuel gauge on dash not compatible. Keep tank and T in return line using a 1990 VW Cabriolet fuel filter. Purchase fuel filter.
Fuel line- Replace with proper FI rated line. SAE J30R9 or better hose
Get proper style hose clamps recommended by Ratwell.
http://www.ratwell.com/technical/FuelHoses.html
Air Filter and S boot- Vanagon S-boot is shorter than Bus get the Bus boot and a donor bracket to weld in.
Throttle cable- Get a 75-79 cable
Install:
ECU- cut hole to mount ECU

I will edit and add pictures when it comes time to install. Any other info or corrections would be great. Thank you. _________________ Keep on Busin'

I didn't realize how important it was until I was troubleshooting a no-start last week.
Type 1 buses, no way. Dual carbs, I could take it or leave it. FI, YES PLEASE. _________________ Learn how your vintage VW works. And why it doesn't!

Oh boy, those van hatches are nice and big. Wonder how it would fit with the Westy pantry/closet on a 72. _________________ Keep on Busin'

Rust bus did it to his 72 with a CS 2.0l with fi....very clean. Also time to add LED engine lights for showing off your pretty engine at night too.... _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Won't affect camper interior...its custom so just move it over to the right a bit and measure with the cabinet in and you won't have any issues. _________________ Stuart Zickefoose
