Some of the TMI interior has come in, so I started making some progress on getting the seats completed. Just waiting for the carpet and panels to come in so I can finish this car up.

Thanks, there are couple wrinkles up in the corners of the back rest that I CANNOT get out, but I'm hoping that won't be that noticeable to most people. _________________ 1967 Class 5

My backseat was so tight it was all I could do to get it stretched on, both my square and notch back seats. A heat gun works awesome to get the wrinkles stretched out. Just be careful not to heat and strength to much. |

Finally got the rest of the interior in from TMI after a little snag with Mario quitting.
I started on the rear cargo area, those damn wheel arches were a PIA trying to get them on with out any wrinkles. I got a few small ones, but overall I'm happy with them.
Looking at the carpet kit, I think they made the front kick panels wrong, the cut out for the heater vent appears to be located up in the curved area of the pan, not in the heater channel. Actually I'm about 100% sure.
I also got the retro sound stereo installed, and ran all of the wiring prior to putting the carpet and padding in.

you are missing the panels under your rear carpet, the carpet or mats lay much flatter with the panels in place.

I have sound deadening under it. Or should I have the padding on top of the deadening? _________________ 1967 Class 5

I believe the sound deadening molds to the indentations in the rear cargo floor while the cardboard panels don't. This is why the carpet lays flat. I have a bunch of jute padding under my carpet in the fasty and it lays flat. _________________ 68 Fastback Build: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5396323#5396323 |

I had the same issues with my carpet kit. The passanger side heater vent did not line up. The back tire wheel well was a pain as well. I went for one big wrinkle and then covered it all with a coco matt.

Did TMI fix the carpet issue as far as the vent goes? Mine is actually probably 12" off, not just out of alignment, I'm gonna be pretty annoyed if I have to wait another 8 weeks for them to fix it. _________________ 1967 Class 5

They have fixed in the past. Now that Mario is gone Im not sure if they will fix it. I would ope so. I just decided to live with it as mine was only about 1/2 inch to high. |

I would hope they fix mine, the cut out for the heater vent is actually way up here, where I put the red circle on your picture.

BTW, Did your rear/front section come with the cut out for the emergency brake? Or did you have to cut that one? Mine is solid and I will need to cut it for the E brake and heater controls. _________________ 1967 Class 5

No, I had to cut it all myself. |

Got the back panels in and the rear seat installed last night.
Also, here is a picture of how far off TMI put the cut out for the heater vent.
I sure hope they fix it, and fix it fast. I also posted a pic of the rear of the door panels, it doesn't have any holes for the Z-armrests. I'm going to call them today and see if they sold me the wrong ones or if it's expected that I drill them myself.

Man it's looking good.
The heater vent is way off, they should send you out a new piece. Not sure on the arm rest but I thought they where a 2 piece panel with the z armrest. At least I know all my early type 3s had 2 piece door panel's. That was long ago so I could be worng. |

Right?!? They boogered up the heater vent something good.
The door panels that came off of it were one piece, they were aftermarket, and were so messed up I threw them away, now I wish I would have kept them to at least use as a template to drill holes if I have to. _________________ 1967 Class 5

At this stage in the game I would make the holes my self and get them on the car who knows how long you will have to wait for the correct ones. But that's just me I get tired of waiting on others people's mistakes. Now that carpet is a different story. I would make them replace that piece. That's a major fubar!
Any way the square is looking awesome! I'm from CA and try to get back out there once a year and now I plan my trips out there around VW events so I'm sure I will see it in person sooner or latter. Keep up the good work rounding the corner to the finish line now. |

If I'm in town I'll have her drive it to the ISP open house this year, so it will definitely be there.
She takes her drivers test Monday, so I'm hoping to have it all done and ready to hand over the keys next week, ugh!!!! _________________ 1967 Class 5

ISP was a blast last year Prado was much bigger. I'm sure I will see it sooner or latter. That's going to be a hard day. I know one day I will be handing all my VW's and VW related stuff over to my kids but for now it's mine all mine.😎
2 years ago I bought a 69 square for my son who is now 17 hoping it would motivate him to spend more time with me but it has yet to happen.😐 |
