we decided to upgrade my splitie motor with empi heads with little bit bigger valves and they had longer and stronger springs. the motor lasted a few hours and gave out. 2 pushrods were bent and off the rockers and keepers went off but recovered. rebuilt again with better rockers and rods. this time lasted only a couple of hours and 2 or 3 lobes on the cam went flat.

i am really getting tired of this, does anyone know why it is hapening? we are planing to replace with a new cam 100 one with new lifters and replace the springs with new stock ones. what do you think this may solve the problem?

Many thanks, ron new zealand

Those are a big change and put considerable pressure on the lifters and cam lobes.

this is probably a better question for the engine group at https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewforum.php?f=12 to be fair.

I'd recommend providing full detail on the engine build - bore/stroke, what cam, what lifters, what rockers, what pushrods, what heads, what valves, what springs...... what was the _old_ combination, how long had it been run, what is the _new_ combination. how was break-in done?
