we decided to upgrade my splitie motor with empi heads with little bit bigger valves and they had longer and stronger springs. the motor lasted a few hours and gave out. 2 pushrods were bent and off the rockers and keepers went off but recovered. rebuilt again with better rockers and rods. this time lasted only a couple of hours and 2 or 3 lobes on the cam went flat.
i am really getting tired of this, does anyone know why it is hapening? we are planing to replace with a new cam 100 one with new lifters and replace the springs with new stock ones. what do you think this may solve the problem?
Many thanks, ron new zealand |

Those are a big change and put considerable pressure on the lifters and cam lobes. |

this is probably a better question for the engine group at https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewforum.php?f=12 to be fair.
I'd recommend providing full detail on the engine build - bore/stroke, what cam, what lifters, what rockers, what pushrods, what heads, what valves, what springs...... what was the _old_ combination, how long had it been run, what is the _new_ combination. how was break-in done? _________________ ...david - '66 SO-44 #231 |
