Anyone know why this heat knob won't go in and screw down? Cables seemed to be jammed up. Cables frozen down by engine maybe? Thx

They can get jammed- badly. I had one that was stuck. If you need to remove the cable, my best advice is to straighten them out where they exit the chassis, wipe them clean, and pull and replace them.

Your cable is twisted, and it shouldn't be. The knob is supposed to PULL the cable, not wind it up. make sure your the knob is working as it is supposed to. That could be your issue.

Be very careful about dorking up the threads where the knob threads on.

Another tip, cut a hole in an old towel or drop cloth, and lay that over the work area. You will get a geyser of crappy lube and dirt in the car when you pull those cables. Or, if you still have access to both cables where they come out of the rear, you could snip the cable in the car and pull the cables out the back.

Yes, if the cable is twisted where it loops around the pin, it won't go down far enough into the well to allow the knob to screw on.

Also, make sure you twist the knob all the way into the cylinder when trying to screw the collar on. Otherwise, the cylinder bottoms out in the well before the collar reaches the threads.

There is supposed to be a pin down inside the body tube to keep the lower section of the heater knob mechanism from rotating and twisting up the heater cable. Check that the pin has not been sheared off....
