Have a diesel converted Vanagon (AAZ), revamping the fuel system and trying to figure out what the stock diesel Vanagon had fuel tank to injection pump?
This was a gas van, and had a new tank put in (with 7mm feed), which goes to diesel filter in the engine bay into a 12mm banjo, then it goes to 7mm banjo out of filter to injection pump which is 7mm.
So did the stock vanagon have a 7 or 12mm outlet fuel tank? Where and how did it go to the filter housing from there?
Cheers! _________________ 1986 Weekender "Birch" |

7mm on the stock van. on early vans the square pre-filter was used as a coupler into a larger inlet fuel pump. _________________ Learn to ride. Ride to learn. |

On gasoline engines it was 7mm with the square pre filter on early models and 12mm with no pre filter on late models, not sure if it was different for diesel _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

The diesel Vanagons had no pre-filters; the supply line ran directly from the tank to the large fuel filter mounted in the engine compartment, as shown in Bentley Page 20.10.
To be precise, there is a short (~24") section of black hose (7mm / ~.25" ID) leading from the tank outlet to a much longer section of semi-rigid plastic tubing (7mm / ~.25" OD) which runs all the way back and connects directly to the fuel filter.
The supply line from the filter to the injection pump is a similarly semi-rigid clear plastic hose but is (7mm / ~.25" ID). If original, this hose is likely nearly opaque after years of use so it is wise to replace it with something new and clear, in order to observe any air bubbles in the supply line during operation.

Thanks for the data about 5 years since you posted it. I’m installing an AAZ in a WBX and I need to know a lot of stuff. |
