What is the function of this torsion arm securing plate? Is it a bump stop of sorts for the lower torsion arm? After lowering my '66 Notch I reinstalled the plates. I just raised the car one inner spline and once again looked at T3 FAQ Sticky on Lowering/Raising and noticed that the plates were not on the car in that tutorial. See link below.

Are these plates necessary? Thank you...

I hate to respond to your question with a question, but I am in the process of restoring my 66 beam, its off the car, stripped down, and painted. I did not remove the lower torsion arms or plates, but I now need to do so to replace the seals (total overhaul of the front end) With them beam being off the car, and no pressure applied, when I take the plates off will the torsion bars then swing forward with force? Really scared about this step in general, scared to mess up the geometry, etc.. Confused

It's a safety lock tab to keep the lower arm from sliding out if the bolt on the opposite side works itself out. The arm would still be connected to the spindle so it's not going to totally come out, but I wouldn't want to be driving on the freeway if this did happen. The beam in the tutorial is earlier or a replacement beam that has the tab built into the beam. You can see it if you look really close.

No. I would take note with an angle finder before you pull the lower arm out, that way you can put it back into the same splines when you put it back together.
