Hey all,

I finally put my new 6 volt battery in and fired up my '55 last night. I was getting about 6.3 volts when I put my voltmeter across the battery cable connectors near the battery posts. Then I had my daughter rev up the car and watched it climb to around 6.4 volts.

My understanding is that this isn't enough voltage. I was thinking of tweaking my voltage regulator, but a friend recommended that I clean my connections first.

Will that really help much if I'm already getting 6.4 volts?

Should I be measuring voltage from somewhere else instead?

Thanks,

Steve

I would start by checking the voltage at the regulator while the car is running. If the voltage at the battery and regulator are within 0.2 volts the connections are not likely to be the problem. If you are low at the regulator you will be low at the battery no matter how good your connections are.

Brilliant! Yes of course...voltage drop. I knew that concept but didn't think to apply it. Great idea. I'll check it tonight. Off the top of your head, do you know which terminals on the voltage regulator?
