|
|
My 1980 Westy has no 12v power nothing works except dash clock? And if I turn the headlight switch on the clock stops for exactly 1 min then starts again
- battery is brand new
- cleaned grounds under dash, replaced trans ground, cleaned 2 other single wire grounds in the engine bay, cleaned ground points on fuse panel
- replaced ignition switch
With a meter I've found 12v at the ignition harness, 1 wire on the middle relay above the fuse panel, and also 12v at only circuits 7,8,9
Any suggestions of things to check next ?

Have you load tested the battery? Do your interior lights work? Do your head lights light up? Did any of this happen after completing the three repairs you mentioned? |

Battery passed the load test, only the dash clock is working , but it cuts out if I turn on the headlight switch, no lights just kills the clock ?
This all started after a weekend trip, before I cleaned any grounds |

I can't tell you where the problem is, but you need to start looking for where you are losing power. The manual has very extensive diagrams. Power is fed from the battery to the fusebox. From there it is distributed to the switches, relays, and components. It is often easier to work with a 12 volt test light than the two leads of a voltmeter. _________________ ☮️ |
