No updates saving up for rims. I prob will not touch it till spring. Just doing the normal starting it up pulling it out of the garage to do oil changes etc. Not doing the 4 Lug brakes so no point in rebuilding those since I am going 5 lug. It will be well worth the wait though. I also don't have an extra set of 5 lug rims to roll around on so there is no point to start the 5 lug swap. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

The Eagle has landed!
So the cats out of the bag and I must say they are really nice rims compared to the stock ones.
I just love my 5 min lowering job but it needs to drop another 3 inches.
The funny thing is I only have two right now. I was lucky to get those! Might have to buy one at a time as this probably going to be long term build. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

Those wheels look HUGE when you put them next to the stockers. So have you done the 5 lug conversion yet? narrowed the beam? |

It was and still is owned by Gianni from Radikalbugz in Belgium I believe. This was when only Flat 4 made these rims in 5x100 bolt pattern, I don't think the rims were narrowed, as they have quite a lot of backspacing, but the beam was. Maybe you can find out more info on the Radikalbugz site? |

I have looked for picture of a beige 67 or 68 with these rims for months. LOL I am wondering if they narrowed the rims or not and you would not happen to know how narrow the beam is on that one? |
Mannnnnnn, I wish I had 17s, do you expect any top fender rubbing with as low as you're going?

The tire clearance should be as close as my last ride. The tires are going to be a little bit taller. I ran 175/55/15 F 175/65/15 R
Going with 195/40/17 F and 205/45 or 50/17 R .
I thought I knew what I wanted to do with this one. I am kinda taking it slow, as to cut or not to cut that is the question. I don't want to make any hasty choices either. I will prob lower it as far as I can go with out cutting the pan head and see how I feel about it. I am the third owner and its pretty nice for what it is. Ultimately this is not my last bug. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

thats very true, I've been contemplating a pie cut with how low these darn BJ beams hang. Especially since I want to get down to earth a bit more. If i do decide for a pie cut I'll most likely buy a IRS pan which will also solve issues as far as camber goes... |

So had a little time and only two rims so might as well see what it will look like with at least one side on. I am trying to get myself motivated to start on the front end. It looks really promising ..
I am afraid the front prob will not go down much more as the beam is like 1/4 inch of the ground right now with just sitting the front stock beam on the ground.
This was my 69 before the pie cut.
This is right where I want the rear to sit should be plenty of clearance. My last bug had the jack mounts on the ground laid out, perfect.
Well that's all for now spring is on its way so will prob start on front beam in a few weeks. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

Yeah had to do a tie rod flip kit. I ended up the pass side flipped and the drivers not. The only prob with those is you have to drill out the spindles to 1/2 and take a tiny bit off of the sleave so it does not bottom out on the nut when you tighten it down. They are like $12 from CIP1. I also had the pan head pie cut so don't know if that made it worse or not. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

Well its been slow. I was able to get a little in yesterday on the front beam and start the dismantle.
I really want to weld up a bracket or something to mount it level etc just so I can clean up the nooks and crannies. Prob do that later.
Yup after PB blaster it still would not come undone.
Yes that is a two piece VW shock. It actually screws in the middle I would assume that its so they can put them on different cars. Not easy to get off.
After fighting with it, I won.
Again tired to be nice and take off the normal way, would not budge so had to cut them off. I think this is the only way to go.
Victory is mine
No bolts sheared on the backing plates.
And ready for a clean up and rework.
Hope to start on these at least soon all for now. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

Small update. Pulled the spindles off and steering box. I am sure there is a way to rebuild it, might just buy a new TRW. The bolts on the box were all finder tight. So wondering if they just worked themselves loose. I think the only thing that saved this beam was all the grease too.
I just took a load of scrap metal in so might order the front adjusters.
More to come. _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.

Eagle II has landed!! I now have a full set!
The finish on these are great and even though the box was beat up a little they all were just fine.
I love the lip on these.
I was going to order my adjusters but they were not on sale anymore. So I will wait till they go back on sale. That prob will not be to long, might have time to save up for some Dropped spindles. More to come.
BIG Thanks to my dad! _________________ 68 build that had been sitting for 18yr in a garage.
