I'm trying! I have just 3 more things on my "to do" list that i want to accomplish before hitting the road on July 9:
Gowesty 3rd brake light
Gowesty rear bumper w/ swing aways (have the swingaways and doodads being shipped but they ran out of stock on the bumper...arrg)
Tint the windows all around w/ 3M Crystaline (Jim I know you're not a window tint fan, but hoping this will greatly reduce the radiant heat while we drive through the south in July.)
so I am close to being totally cross country road ready...

Thanks for the reminder and tip, Dana. Sounds like you’re crossing all kinds of stuff of the list. |

It looks like I will be in the Seattle/Tacoma area the weekend of August 18. Are there any Vanagon meetups I can take in? _________________ Vanagon ’83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |

If you're gonna be around for a little longer, the Dosewallips event starting on the 23rd could be fun.
Aug 23 - 26, 2018 at Dosewallips State Park - 306996 Highway 101 Brinnon, WA 98320
Join us the WEEKEND BEFORE Labor Day on Thursday thru Sunday noon Aug 23, 24, 25 and until noon on the 26th for the 7th annual Puget Sound Wetwesties Reunion.
No RSVP required - just show up.
The weekend following Labor Day is the full REUNION held at Catherine Creek State Park near Union OR.
Again, we have reserved THURSDAY night thru Saturday night. This way you can beat the Friday afternoon crowds on what can be a busy weekend. As we did for the last 3 years, we think that as in the past if anyone wants to stay over Sunday night the site should be available for a one day single site fee.
We expect 40 or so vans for Dosewallips as vans from Canada, Washington and Oregon gather and have a fine time reconnecting with old friends and new. It's a great park for everyone to ride bikes, walk to the Puget Sound saltwater slough and bird watch.
We always welcome the newbies and lurkers. Musicians are always welcome as are kids of all ages. We have developed quite an impressive ukulele/ guitar/ fiddle group!
For much of the year Hood Canal is wet and grey, but late August is prime time for visiting this jewel of an area. The weather has been spectacular for the last 2 years. If you can plan an extended trip you can take advantage of the Olympic National Park and the many recreational opportunities.
Costs are $10 per day per van entry fee plus a $5 to $10 fee per van (depending on number of vans) to cover the facility fee charged by the park. Vans 1 thru 10 pay nothing at the gate - but they do pay $10 to the Wetwesties host at the campground using the envelope provided. Every van numbered 11 and up pays $10 a night at the gate to the Park personnel for the "extra vehicle fees." On Saturday before dinner we divide the total fees by the number of vans and settle up.
Sunday night costs will be determined by the number of vans and will be estimated at the Saturday pot luck for payment on Sunday.
Dosewallips State Park is a 425-acre, year-round camping park with 5,500 feet of saltwater shoreline on Hood Canal and 5,400 feet of freshwater shoreline on either side of the Dosewallips River. The park is unique in that it offers both freshwater and saltwater activities. All camp areas are grassy and located in scenic, rustic settings. Last year's clear skies and spectacular weather allowed many to walk to the waterfront on Hood Canal and see the mountains. It's a great site for biking thru the park.
We camp in Group Camp 1 (Meadow Camp) which is - as named - a large meadow that easily held the vans with room to spare. There is a big campfire pit, a covered eating area, several picnic tables and a barbeque. Water and primitive toilets are available. Flush toilets and hot showers are elsewhere in the park within walking distance. A trailhead and the Dosewallips River are easily accessible.
Distance from Seattle is 125 miles via the Tacoma Narrow Bridge, Port Orchard and then North over the Hood Canal Bridge - or - 135 miles going thru Olympia and then north to the southern tip of the Hood Canal. The shortest drive is via the Edmonds Ferry and is 68 miles over the Hood Canal Bridge. Portlanders have and easy 110 miles up I-5 to Olympia then another 62 miles along Highway 110 up the beautiful drive along Hood Canal. For Shelton, Port Orchard, Pt Townsend , etc this is in your back yard.
Potluck is Saturday evening. As always bring firewood for the huge group campfire around the large concreted fire pit. A Ranger has given talks at the campfire about the area's settlement and history. _________________ Casey--

For PNW folks, who are dreaming about Van Season 2024....
EDIT: .....good thing I checked the address etc,
because the flyer does not explain this.
"The Shop" is NOT a locals only nickname for Peace Vans own shop.
"The Shop" is a separate business,
----->it's a venue that hosts GTGs for car clubs.
It's nearby, a few blocks from PeaceVans.

I'm very tempted, need to arrange with the family (couple birthdays to celebrate)...
Does anybody know ow big is the parking lot at The Shop? I'm assuming they will get over 50 vans probably. _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")

Unfortunately, I won't be in town until later that week. PeaceVans does have a knack for good hospitality so I'm guessing it will be time well spent.

I'm sure no van is needed to attend. Show up and see what the other folks brought! That's the fun part for me.

Roughly 30 in in the parking lot and 20 or so on the street?
Be ready to do some burnouts.

At pnwkayaker's Marymoor GTGs, people often bring snacks for other attendees.
Consider bringing donuts for the under-priviledged who can't do their own donuts. _________________
