The passenger's side Klassicfab corner just got installed, it was a great fit.
My Argon/Co2 MIG welder is working great!
Check out the before and after!

Thanks Pinetops!
Today I cut out the driver's side outer and inner rockers and am
now fitting the funky green inner rocker and reinforcements.
And a major POR 15 Application!

The story behind the bus is....
It is a German 1958 standard VW Bus and was originally found by the PO in a field with a tree growing up through the engine compartment!
It was saved from the tree and stored in a large shed for about 18 years when I came along and bought it from the PO in NC and brought it to FL!
My goal for now on is to replace the metal around the lower 6-8 inches of the body with as much metal and as little filler as possible...
In the mean time I am enjoying the 1776 cc engine with no reduction gears! It cruises on the interstate at 80 mph no problem.
The body work is coming along great and faster than anticipated.
I bought it with all seats including the middle seat, had them all restuffed and reupholstered.
I had a new wiring harness installed, new brakes all the way around, newly rebuilt 1776 cc engine with dual weber carbs as mentioned earlier, 67-68 bug transmission installed to replace the reduction gears, drop spindles installed in the front, new drums and tires, and a few additional items to get it up and running. |

How long did it take to weld the long weld on the driver's side outer rocker? Just the welding part, summed up if you did it in multiple sessions. |

I had to spot weld, let it cool, move to another area, spot weld, move, etc.
If you attempt a bead it will get too hot and buckle or elongate and then it will need pounding out back to the correct shape.
The outer long rocker took probably about 2 to 2 1/2 hours or so of welding and grinding.
It's really pretty fun! 😊 |
