There are cheaper alternatives... now that you know what to look for..

Use a chrome easter eggs... well half of one.. Laughing

The Dorman help line at most parts houses hav dust caps that WILL work

http://www.dormanproducts.com/gsearch.aspx?type=keyword&origin=keyword&q=dust+cap

Specifically http://www.dormanproducts.com/p-1477-13976.aspx?origin=keyword

Just use some high strength RTV , let cure and done..

Plus Exactly as tunes mentioned..
Semi trucks also have BIG NUTS and truckers love chrome too.

I was raised in a trucking family with... big nuts..... Laughing ... I even added truck lug caps to my caps..

Stop in at any major truckstop along most any interstate highway, and you'll probably find what I found: The cheapy chrome lugnut covers for 18 wheelers fit the VW rear axel nut perfectly (and their bumper bolt covers fit VW lug bolts as well). You probably can't read the price tag on the one I'm holding in this pic, it's 59¢

I kind of agree with you, we have lids spun for us from a shop but I'm pretty sure they won't just do a small job for me. I was going to use aluminum out of a solid bar that flares in behind the wheel

but for a quick fix I may look in to bike parts.
I had no idea they used a 36mm thanks guys that's perfect

They make covers for the rear axle bolt on motorcycles. Search eBay and you might find what you need in the correct 36mm size.

Hi there
does anybody know if some one makes rear axle cover, before I try machining one up.
I am running 944 spares (like the Porsche outlaws on my 65)
in the fronts I chromed the dust covers to match the polished wheel.
for the back I tried a chrome axle nut and it just didn't cut it.
you can see my front wheel with the chromed cap
and the next picture id not great but it shows just a black nut on the rear
thanks for any help
Russ
