I've been tackling the wiring so I don't have to do it when the car is painted. The main goal is to fit everything nicely behind a wiring cover.

The Speedhut speedometer has low fuel, high beam and signal idiot lights, but no oil and charge lights. The alternator won't charge without one and this way I didn't have to add more holes to the car.

Before I wire up the fuel pump relay, I figured I better put a failsafe in case of an accident. This is an "impact" switch. The red button will pop up like a resettable circuit breaker if a crash occurs.

Here's a universal marine fuel sender that I modified to work with the early tank. The idea was to copy the rare hanging type accessory sender, without cutting a huge hole in the top of the tank for the tube type. The fuel gauge is fully programmable to read full and empty at whatever ohm range I choose. No need to worry if gauge and sender are working properly together. I also can choose any point to activate a low fuel idiot light.

Here you can see I gutted all the parts.

I used a 90 degree bracket to move the sensor out of the way of the filler neck and to rotate the arm. Now it swings up and down pointing at the driver front wheel.

The signal wire was extended and insulated from ground with the original rubber washer, plastic block and o -ring.

For the most accurate signal, I chose to add the ground directly to the original bracket.

Ever since I had this tank, it's always had the holes in the filler neck from a PO. A few years ago, I figured out it must have originally had a similar sender mounted in the past. The car came with a rare round VDO 6 volt gauge that I traded a buddy for some other stuff. For the right side hole, I tapped the existing hole to 1/8" NPT for a -3 vent fitting. Every so often, I'd pull the gas cap off and hear a swoosh, but most of the time it seemed to vent properly, so I won't be having that problem again.

Using grommets and pieces of rubber gasket that came in the kit should keep it leak free. Well, less likely than a tube sender mounted in the middle of the tank. I used heat shrink in multiple layers to make the wiring a tight fit. The last thing I had to do was shorten the float rod, bend a new 90 degree bend and attach the float. To keep it in place, I reused the original washer and peened the end.

Hmmm, I see on the instructions, it says DO NOT bend the float arm. I see why.... if you bend it up or down, it will limit the sensor range. I just copied how it was and bent it to the side.

Good idea on the inertia switch, looks like same one in my Mustang.

Yeah, it seemed like a no brainer since I'm using an electric fuel pump and routed the new fuel hard line along the heater channel. I like that no fuel runs through the passenger area anymore and the switch makes me feel better about any possible side impact.

Well, I finally finished moving and setting up my new shop so I could finally get down to business. Lots of shelving and organizing had to be sorted out, along with house projects. I had a chance to finish mocking up and testing the new wiring, relays and switches. Ugh it's a lot to deal with in a small spot. It'll all get removed for paint, but it's gonna take several hours to clean it all up and loom everything. I didn't expect so many wires, but to do the job right I had no choice. Here's my list of things I added that were not stock:

Fog lights
Electric fuel pump
Stereo with amp and illumination control, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters
Electric gas gauge
Speedo GPS
Clock
67 2 speed wiper motor and switch
6 turn signal bulb system
Hazard circuit and switch
Bunch of relays
Tach
Boost/vacuum gauge for supercharger
Digital CHT gauge
Footwell courtesy light
Cigarette lighter
3 junction blocks

It doesn't seem like all that much to add when you think about it in your head, but in reality it's quite a job!

Here's some heavy duty junction blocks I got from Waytek. There are 3 total: constant hot power, keyed on power and ground. There is a rubber disc that covers all the connections to prevent shorts. I'll pop a rubber cap over the large studs too.

Final location of the Ford impact switch for the fuel pump relay. The Lincoln trunk where this came from had the switch mounted on an identical type bracket. I wanted easy access to the button for troubleshooting any future pump problems without having to remove a wiring cover.

Originally, I was going to do away with the lower 2 fuse stock box for 58's. I had this 3 position German aftermarket universal box so I decided to use it. Now both circuits of headlight (high and low beam) are fully fused. It saves space trying to cram more stuff behind the dash too and looks more OEM than any other universal box I've seen. Instead of 6 fuses as original, I now have 12.

A NOS Ampco oiler to complete my vintage speed theme. The Japanese AMR supercharger doesn't require it since it has a self contained oil system, but not a bad idea for boost conditions anyway. My engine isn't going to be ready anytime soon but I've been pre fitting and mocking everything else up already.

Ok I remember you had some problems with your beam adjusters. I see you have a build thread going, that's great so people can remember what you're working with in between posts.

I've waited so many years to finally buy this. West Coast Classics wool headliner. It really is worth the money. The plan is to keep collecting the parts for bodywork pre fit and fast assembly after paint. After this many years of owning the car, the last thing I want is a freshly painted body shell sitting around taken apart for 5 years. I don't want loose glass lying around and need the headliner so that back window can go back in asap.

I hear ya, I'm pretty much on the same game plan with mine. That headliner looks sweet, need one too. What do they get for that?

ATM this one is around $575 plus tax and shipping. Since I'm in CA, it costs me an extra $45 because of that. I had it about 2 weeks after the order. That's not bad considering they are always booked doing restoration work. I really like the heavy plastic and fiberboard pieces that are sewn in for the pinch claws on the body. I have a "mohair" sample from Sewfine and it is very different

For around $200 I think the Sewfine material is not bad for a budget build or for someone that wants to try their first headliner. It's obvious that this has a lot more cotton in it from the feel. Both are close in thickness and stretchy-ness. It clearly has a front and a back to the material.

The wool headliner appears to be the same thick material throughout. It is a lighter shade of gray and a shinier appearance in sunlight. You can see the shine in the flash of it lying on my bed. It has a very slight itchy feel to it like wool socks or my trench coat has. Between the two, this material looks like it is very resistant to fraying. Also, less likely to develop those annoying little lint pills like an old cotton sweater.
