I've been working on a lot of little details that don't seem all that impressive to post, BUT I have been making major progress. Here's a set of plug wires I made- early 2000's VW coil pack (goofy connector) to aircooled VW at the plug end. What I did was take a set of wires from a VR6 Jetta and used the longest 4 wires out of the box

I’m trying to challenge myself and try things I haven’t seen on a Bug before. Maybe even things never done on a Bug before (almost impossible!). I used this perforated steel sheets I’ve been holding onto for awhile. They were literally shelves from an 80’s looking tv entertainment center. They sit flush against flat panels that will be contrast color kind of like you see here. I have a little bit of mock up before the engine compartment can be painted. The screws will most likely get changed to black buttonheads.
The theme of this build is sort of off the wall. Old speed/new speed/Cal Look/Restomod. A 40hp with bypass oil filter setup with EFI and modern supercharger doesn’t really make sense, does it? That’s ok, I hope people get confused by it.

Those wires look clean, def never seen ones like them in a bug. Coil will be nice tucked outta the way like that.

Was curious about your supercharged EFI build, saw you talking about it in another thread... Did a little stalking and found your build thread. I am also converting my supercharged GHIA to EFI. Currently running a Weber DCOE 40. I plan on using a DCOE ITB, as it will be an easy conversion for me. Plus, I like the idea of the A/F cooling the supercharger somewhat, these things get HOT!! Keep up the great work!

I’m jealous of the room you have in a Ghia! Hands down it’s the number one obstacle I face- wanting a fully closed decklid. I’m barley touching on the inner rain tray, I will probably have to notch it slightly. I don’t want to remove it all the way. I’m also adding the Marvel oiler just like the Judson used for extra lubrication for the blower and top end.

Roomy? Yes, but my deck lid doesn't close. Had to use 1" stand offs... And after properly tilting the intake/carburetor to keep fuel from spilling out the stacks... I now need even larger stand offs to close the lid. If I had the welding skills, such as yourself, I would have a deck lid that closes fully. Oh well.

Hobart Handler 140 (budget line of Miller) 110 volt welder for $450, Harbor Freight welding cart, a medium tank of gas bought outright for $280 full and some Youtube videos and you will be well on your way. 
The Hobart is a great buy, I'm still amazed at what it'll do off a household outlet

Yeah, been going back an forth on getting a welder. Taught myself how to MIG weld while restoring my Ghia. Had an idea a while back on how to modify a merged muffler for better looks and location of AFR bung. But have since shifted directions and intend on buying a Sidewinder exhaust for my new motor. The Trimill I have now works and sounds great. All your fabrications look really good. The ITB manifold and air cleaner hat are aluminum aren't they? You welded those too??

Yeah, for a couple years I've been practicing TIG for the aluminum stuff. I bought a Lincoln Squarewave 200 for that. You've got the disease when you buy your first AC TIG machine. At first, I was thinking to go with the polished aluminum look on the tubing, but I think I'm going to do something else. I really only used it to practice welding, and functionally to lower the weight hanging off of everything. I'm not that thrilled about working with the stuff, although fun to weld. The shavings and dust go everywhere and is a real pain to clean up, like sawdust

That’s what I’m afraid my wife will figure out about my 62 rag Baja ...
Problem is I’ve already had dreams of a low rider with adjustable suspension to navigate the potholes of the Midwest ... maybe just lower & narrow the front end ... it doesn’t have to be fast as long as it keeps up with highway traffic ... it just has to look cool. |

I might have to call 911. Well, maybe not right now. They seem to have there hands full with real problems.
