Hair pads from WW and Sewfine H pattern style covers but for 56-64 seats. They were a very very tight fit. Using a heat gun and clamps to compress the front seats especially. I also added sheet metal screws next to some of the factory mounting claws to help hold everything tight.

I forgot to take pics from before, but the whole body was stripped to bare metal, skim coated, blocked, etch primed and then 2k high build primed. There are some pretty horrendous runs, but after I set up to spray the clouds rolled in and it was about to rain. I've never mixed, filled and sprayed a paint gun so fast in my life.

The most work of any body panel on the car was the hood. Cracks and tears at the beak and hood prop. Almost done blocking both sides....

Engine parts look horrible!! Ugh. Look, send them to me for my ‘58 ragtop build and I’ll save you the embarrassment of having them. You’re welcome!

Great job on the car, looks great. My journey has just begun!

Thanks guys. I forgot I wanted to reinforce the decklid hinges and spring bracket. Brand new metal is fun to TIG

Yeah don’t give up! There’s some awesome guys on YouTube and cool camera technology to see how it’s done. Once you eliminate the stuff you are doing wrong and learning about machine settings, it’s not too hard. Then, you just practice. I converted my torch to water cooled and it makes it much more comfortable. Thing gets damn hot if you are wearing thin gloves. I was told by someone with a lot of experience to make sure you are always welding comfortably, it’s true.

When I first started, I didn’t know you couldn’t pull a bead with TIG. It comes out horrible lol. It’s an impossible skill to learn without a teacher

I’m starting on my exhaust while I’m waiting for engine machining to get finished up. I bought an AA Sidewinder so I can practice modifying and welding stainless exhaust. I’ve never had an exhaust with V bands, so I decided to give it a go.

I also wanted a stock tailpipe exit, maybe some different tips and extra sound resonators/baffles of some type. I’m using a v band here as well just for fun and to make the tailpipe section removable. It’s cool to be able to clock it anywhere you want. Until I get it on the engine and in the car, I’ll have to wait to do that part.

I’m also waiting on some small v bands to do the J pipes. Never really see anyone do those. This is my first time brazing TIG with silicon bronze. It’s a little tricky. Maybe I should clean the metal better next time, it looks kinda scaly. Or try welding on AC mode for better cleaning action? Either way, the car is a driver, so I’m happy with it.

I’m back at it after being sick the entire month of August. The engine is 90% complete ATM. My friend is going to machine the piston skirts and I have to finish all the pushrod and rocker assembly. The tins have been getting modified so they fit and then I can paint them. Exhaust needs to be modified and fit to the car/apron, so this is where I’m at now.

Very nice, I think your welds look great. I have always thought a removable apron would be awesome on a bug.
